There is something to be said about someone who wants to coach at Bama that bad.
Yeah and I also think he is settling down on the women side as well.
Who knows?
We catch Lane at the right time and he puts it altogether because he wants the throne THAT bad.

Even if you don't like him you have to admit he is one of the best options.
He also has no desire to go back into NFL and sees the Alabama job as his peak destination; meaning if he is good he is going to be here for a long haul.
Lastly, while his personality may not resonate with you it does with the kids he is recruiting. With the Alabama machine and Saban's blessing behind him our only issue would be who his defensive coordinator would be year to year.
Your first 2 paragraphs describe me, and I'd be a disaster.
Your last paragraph is about recruiting, which, ironically, Kiffin isn't great at

I do know that last year the Barn tried to get him... again. Turns out he opted out due to his kids not wanting to leave... or some other BS pulled by Barners
Everyone knows this is his dream job, except the Barn but they don't know anything

I don't think anyone knows what the heck happened but Coach, Ms Terry and Byrne and and one or two trustees and maybe the President.
The most likely scenario is the illness scenario. It is, I suspect, something that has been ongoing for some time now.
This was not, in my opinion, a decision due to burnout or "it just being time". It was an unwanted decision. Saban LOVES coaching and loves recruitING. And he didn't just wake up one day and decide to give it all up.
No. Something happen that made the situation worse. Some test or development that made it clear that in the coming months it would be impossible to continue.
I would not be surprised if Greg has known about this for a year or more. And over that time, he, and Saban and the forementioned people worked all this out.
Of course, human nature is unpredictable. People can disappoint, so they probably have three lined up. Three that Said yes to everything before Saban even retired.
And yesterday, before this even broke, Saban and Byrne sat together in his office called #1, basically saud "its time, and then
an iternerary was laid out to announce the new coach
There are no interviews or negotiations. They had already worked out the line of succession.
This is the way it had to have happened. This is the Saban way.

Turning down the Barn is one of his attributes.

Here’s the thing with kiffen. At FAU he was impressive, enough so to take a job back in the SEC. At ole miss; he leads them to two of their best years in program history back to back years. The one common thing between both of his last two stops: he has been good and we can probably all agree those places weren’t his first choices. Imagine what he is capable of at a school he really wants to be at.

With high school kids. He's great at recruiting the portal. My big hangups with Lane are the issue of Golding and he just doesn't seem to have a big game personality. Especially on the road.

I have no problem with Lane. I think he would do well. But I just think he's down the list a bit because Saban probably doesn't see him as ideal.
And since I think this was already pre-planned, then Kiffin is just a backup in case the real guy reneges.

Cool! Interesting remark about Denmark and Sweden re: knowing Alabama. In the Netherlands there is little to no awareness at all about Alabama or college football in general. NFL yes, but other than that no. I can guarantee you that Saban’s retirement has received absolutely ZERO media attention here in Holland. I wonder how many people here even know him.
Meanwhile Saban’s retirement has left me, also the day after the night before, completely gutted and shocked. I kinda thought that HCNS and retirement were two separate things that were impossible to reconcile. For sure I had him penciled down for another 3 years. If Mick Jagger can be on tour at 80, Saban can coach at his customary level til 75…

I'm not surprised folks were kidding themselves thinking he was coaching until he was 80. The only thing that accumulates quicker than interest is age.

If Lanning were indeed in town, that information would be out by now. Instead, we’ve got several Oregon sources saying he’s still there. Not a great sign there.

Im starting to doubt that health concerns were the absolute catalyst. I think he had coaches leaving and just realized he didnt have the fire to do coaching turnover again. If Steele had stayed, he stays IMO

If the rumor regarding Terry's health is true and Nick was working the staff for 2024, then perhaps the CT Scan showed a major change from her last.
I am 73 and my wife 70 and she is in the early stages of this walk.
Wishing the best for Nick, Terry, and the family. This is a Gamechanger in life.

All of a sudden a lot of copium in this thread now that the realization is starting to set in that we might be stuck with Kiffin.
Posted on 1/11/24 at 7:29 am to Sl0thstronautEsq
No cope from me, if not lanning I’m all in on kiffin.
Posted on 1/11/24 at 7:29 am to bamabenny
They know less than nothing. Don’t worry about it. You will know soon.
Posted on 1/11/24 at 7:29 am to Sl0thstronautEsq
There were some pretty hot and heavy rumors around town that he got caught red handed fricking a donor’s wife and that he would never be considered for another position here.
The candidates past Kiffin and Lanning aren’t great though.

I don't know why people love Kiffin so much, other than he's funny on Twitter. He's a great coordinator, but he's not a great HC. He lacks most of the qualities that it takes to run a consistent, top program.
People like him because's he's a great offensive mind, he's still a young guy despite having been a HC for damn near 20 years, he seems to know how to play the NIL game and connect to today's player. Also, since he left Alabama, he's had four 10-win seasons in seven years. That's at Florida Atlantic and Ole Miss.
OM was 6-6, 5-7, 4-8 in the three years before he got there.
FA was 3-9, 3-9, 3-9 in the three years before he got there, and 5-4, 5-7, 5-7 in the three years after he left.
Kiffin has flaws for certain but since he has left UA he's been a much more stable and consistent head coach than he was prior. If you're looking for a big body of work, the only guy that's going to make you happy is Dabo or Kirby, and I think as many have pointed out, Dabo is trending down in the current landscape of CFB. Kirby just isn't leaving his alma mater with the way he's got it rolling.

I thought I read last night that there was a flight from N1UA on the books for Oregon for TODAY that was cancelled, then N1UA's stuff went private. Byrne could be still going up there to get him today.
