It was the absolute worst time to be an Alabama fan. The media was laughing at us everyday.

There was no transfer portal or NIL then, key distinction.

Why in the hell with years of this being a possibility wouldn't there be a quick succession agreement where Saban would give pre-notice, quiet calls would be made BEFORE the story broke and the coach would be announced the next day?

Makes no sense.

You may be correct, but im assuming the bridges burned were with the men who paid the bills.

I’m about ready for them to hire Schumman and call it a day. Can’t imagine other coaches will want Saban to “be around” as he put it. Schumman might be, he could use the mentorship and would be a bit unprecedented and may set a new standard, as Saban often does. If it works out he could be here a long time, if not then we start over.

There are no guarantees unless Saban comes back or Smart walks through the door and neither of those is happening.

While all this has been going own I have always felt it will be an NFL guy or someone with NFL experience even though some of the "names" don't match that.

If it were Kiffin, it would have happened in 5 minutes. Sark = sideways move. Lanning conversation last weekend didn’t turn into offer. Leaves one guy who just canceled his radio show appearance. And Byrne is a West Coast guy with connections.

Don’t underestimate Sextons role in this. We could’ve signed one of his clients yesterday and have him request we wait 48 hours so he can keep floating his others for a raise. That’s how the agent game works

I don't think it's that easy. Agents have to be involved, calls have to be made. If that leaks (which it would), it could ruin everything. I'm sure they were keeping a short-list of coaches that they would contact though.

He might be out of a job next year if they start out 2-6. NFL = Not For Long.

It seems to me that NFL coaches have better job security and lower expectations. The college game is where we've seen multiple coaches fired less than two years removed from undefeated national title seasons.

Mayo is 37 was hired by Patriots. Now the youngest NFL coach.

Sean McVay was younger when he was hired. I also think he got his Super Bowl ring before he was 37.

Other than the fact Saban said he was still debating the decision 5 minutes before he told the team.

Glen Schumann. He is he best hire

Age-look at McVay
Money- no buyout and relatively low pay. Good for NIL
Recruiting-most important thing in
College football. He already has ties to every one of our future recruits in the South.

Ruin what exactly? At most it would be roughly the same situation we have now now, but the portal would be closed because we would still have a coach.

Much more likely it would've been seen as typical "Saban is retiring" rumors that would be occurring with the portal closed with the talks behind closed doors instead of all the media scrutiny being applied to all of our major candidates.
