I bet it doesn’t.

Internal hire (continuity)
Late into the semester (can’t withdrawal and transfer easily this late)
They lost 17 starters (everyone thinks they’ll start at Michigan so only reason to leave is $$)

They may have issues in spring portal, but not many now.

This thing is so overblown. Forget Michigan players. I like our guys. I want to keep our guys.

Who on Michigan do you even want outside of Will Johnson?

Their losses are not unlike TCU's from 2022 to 2023, or FSU's from 2023 to 2024. Probably a 6-6 or so year for them, if they're lucky.

Everything came together for them for one season, and now they will take a big step back unless they make an absolute slam dunk hire.

They are promoting from within. I think the OC is taking it. Dumb if you ask me and I think they are doing this from a roster management standpoint.

I agree… it’s a horrible move to promote the OC. It’s very short-term thinking. It may help with roster retention in this 30 day window, and the spring portal… but after 1-2 years the dude will run your program into the ground.

I do think some will leave though. Playing time isn’t the only factor… we had guaranteed starters leave

Oh yeah the dude who wept on camera as if Harbaugh was on life support in ICU over a 3 game suspension FOR CHEATING. This should go great.

It was a sheer fluke of circumstances that an offense that mediocre was able to win a national title. It happens from time to time. Can’t really build a program around “hey we will win it when all the top rosters don’t have an established quarterback and the established quarterbacks are all on lesser rosters” thinking but it worked out for them.

Their good coordinator was the DC but he’s likely going with Harbs to LA.

Some say he watches romantic comedies for inspiration. And that his tears can cure venereal disease. All we know is that he's not Coach O, but he is Coach O's Michigan cousin.

If anyone gets this reference we are now friends.

All if this. Their loss is hiring an unproven assistant

Nah. Promoting their OC. Too late to transfer and get enrolled for the spring semester at most other schools. They are going to have like 15-16 draft picks so the majority of their best guys are going to the NFL.

Wishful thinking. They have a solid roster and outside of a couple teams the B1G is a weak conference. They could probably play their 3rd string and still beat Iowa, who they played in their conference championship. 9 wins is a floor for them

What I really really really really wish would happen would be for Kelly to go to Michigan, opening up LSU's roster to be raped and pillaged...especially after they have yapped about our guys leaving. Dear 8 pound 6 ounce baby Jesus, please let that happen.

They play Texas, USC, Oregon, @Washington, @Ohio State, @decent Illinois on the road, improved Michigan State, not at all bad Fresno State, all with a completely depleted roster and a first year head coach it appears.

I don’t care if Michigan is good or not. It’s not “wishful thinking” looking at their roster, which is decent but certainly not loaded by any means, to think they will go 6-6 with that schedule.

Nah.

You see, unlike players, college programs have loyalty. They want to compete with the players that signed with them originally. No way do any want a massive upgrade on that 3 star 5th year QB who has been waiting to play. Fans wouldn’t trade him for anyone because loyalty to the players in the program is more important than winning. Fans will be glad to lose all day with Billy Homestate at QB instead of winning with Johnny Heisman, transfer from UCLA.

Those pesky players, though. Someone gives them a better opportunity to shine or more money and, I mean, they just leave. It’s baffling to fans,

False equivalency. Players have made an actual commitment to a university, been paid a stipend and scholarship at the least if not NIL money as well, had a significant amount of time and money invested in their development and publicity, etc. Fans are just passively watching the games on television.

A player transferring out is sort of like leaving your wife for another woman, while a fan wanting new players to transfer in is more like switching up the account you're subbed to on OnlyFans. Totally different levels of investment and commitment, so it's much more sensible to expect loyalty in one case than the other.
