That would be a really solid hire considering what UM is about to go through. They could certainly do worse

Karma for Warde Manuel

Michigan will end up with one of the following:

Lea
Heupel
Minter
Kelly
Fisch

Deboer knows exactly what he has at Alabama. The best freshman class in football, that he just stacked arguably the best signing class in football on top of. This probably isn't the year, but he's starting to collect gamechangers all over the field. He gets a natty here by year 4 and then we'll be in a spot to compete for one every year.

He won’t be the fish out of water he was at LSU, he’ll be more successful because of the area and schedule, and he can probably be had relatively cheaply.

I would legit if he went there and won a national title.

BK and Michigan v. Kiffin and LSU in the playoffs would potentially be the most hate watched football game of all time, and if Michigan won I think it might actually rise to the level of a post-1/9 melt on this site.

Media is all over the place because there is an excess of talking heads.

MSN.com --- LSU would be on the hook for difference ... another BS story

Someone needs to tell the corndogs -- This is what they should be shilling for. Right now, they are working to bankrupt a program with all they are spending.

Interesting shortlist from Portnoy. He said he's going to promote some of these guys to the Michigan administration even though he doesn't have any pull (which seems odd based on how much he donates to NIL):

Since I'm sure no one wants to hear him talk, his list is:

Gruden
Saban (he just said you have to make him say no, not that this is realistic)
Lanning
Jeff Monkin
Clark Lea
Kenny Dillingham
Deion

Gruden - replace an HR train wreck with another HR train wreck who last coached at the college level in 1991 and hasn't coached at all since 2021.

Saban (he just said you have to make him say no, not that this is realistic) - putting aside the whole "ain't happening" thing, sure, go ahead and hire the guy who turns 75 next year and whose age was being used against him in recruiting 5-6 years ago.

Lanning - Ok, but he's already making $11 mil a year in the same conference, has a first round playoff bye, and his seat is igloo cool. Why would he leave that for a train wreck?

Jeff Monkin - reasonable but risky candidate. FCS and service academy experience as a head coach.

Clark Lea - just signed an extension and is 9-27 without Diego Pavia and Jerry Kill. He might could bring Kill, but Pavia's used up the last of his lifelines.

Kenny Dillingham - maybe, but a very small body of work.

Deion - Please, oh please make it happen. I really don't like Michigan.

Short version - Portney should stick to cyberstalking Danica Patrick. He's better at that than developing a resonable list of Michigan coaching candidates.

Monken has good pedigree. But Jim Leonhard needs a call.

Same regurgitation from the LSU/ Florida debackle.

Might as well add (you know, make them say no) -

- Pete Carrol
- Lou Holtz (can barely speak)
- Ara Parseghian (is almost as aware as Holtz)

Brian Kelly was spending recruiting season 4 hours from Baton Rouge playing golf at the beach. He was mentally checked out and everyone in Baton Rouge that knew him didn’t like him.

Do I hope Michigan hires him? Absolutely.

Do I think he would be a disaster? Absolutely.

I doubt AD Ward Manuel will be at Michigan very much longer. I doubt he hires the next coach. It could be several weeks before they make a HC hire.

Manuel should have been fired a while back. This should be the last straw for him. His last 2 coaches were suspended multiple times for cheating. He hired Juwan Howard.

He is a shitty AD.
