He was going to be responsible for running Tua's bro off by standing in the way. He was going to hold up the Bryce Young era.

I know people were saying things like this because I was one of them.

Now I find myself wondering what if. What if he had gotten an earlier shot?

Mac is the best QB we ever had.

Imagine that.

Mac's career worked out perfectly for him. What if he'd gotten an earlier shot? He wasn't ready then. He didn't have Tua's natrual QB ability nor did he have Jalen's natural athleticism. He needed those three years as a backup to put in the work and develop into the QB he is today.

Senior leadershipl, experience, and maturity is underrated these days. Throwing an INT or fumbling the ball in the redzone, big momentum swing and then being able to come out next drive and execute wins games.

I think Mac, had he needed to play, probably would have been very good in 2019. He made some mistakes against AU but if he starts all season he probably gets those mistakes out of the way early in the year.

Either way it doesn't matter. Everything worked out.

Saban has spoken about Mac's maturity over the years... I think It was Mac or Tua or someone, that said things clicked for Mac last year. So I think getting lot of mop up playing time last year helped Mac's confidence a lot. If mac had started last year, I think he would've struggled little more than usual...

yeah the bits and pieces he would say about Mac in the past would led you believe that if he made a mistake he could not get past it.

Then he stopped talking about that, guessing Mac finally started just worrying about the next play

Surely we were pretty high on Mac after his 5 starts last year. May be a bit of revisionist history though

What if he had stuck with his commitment to Ky..would he be in the same position he is today as a likely 1st round pick?

Yeah the two pick 6s sucked but Mac passed for like 700 yards and a bunch of TDs against a couple of salty defenses in the last two games of 2019. I never understood all of y'all who assumed it was a matter of when not if he lost the starting job as if he had gone out there and looked like Spencer Pennington.

It was perplexing but not surprising

Doubtful. frick Dan Enos but he's a good QB coach. Sark is one of the best QB coaches in the country. Mac needed to be developed and he got better coaching here than he'd have ever gotten at Kentucky.

Mac is the perfect example of why it frustrates me so much when our fans get all up in arms about a freshman phenom not starting over an experienced player. At some point you'd think folks would trust Saban and realize there's a reason (sometimes more than one) one player is on the field vs. another.

i still believe strongly - even more so after this Natty - but we are a better team with a QB like a McCarron/Jones type than a "gun slinger". Bama is best when balanced, not Air Bama

Yea, Mac needed time. He got time, he took advantage of it, worked his arse off, and he got his shot at a time when he was ready to snatch it.
