This x1,000.

The “Do Your Job or Get Out” mentality that Saban instilled in the program from 2007 to about 2017 seems ancient at this point.

They have been completely stripped of their authority. That’s part of the trouble. And they largely did it to themselves. It’s going to take some of the bigger brands getting shafted and breaking off from the NCAA entirely. CFP as we already knew it is dead, the only hope as far as getting it somewhat closer to normal imo is some league structure that implements rules keeping rosters intact with NIL or salary caps (meaning these kids are full-on contracted employees) and transfer restrictions.

We've now got HS kids getting NIL deals TO PLAY HS SPORTS. Yeah, of course the "my way or the highway" stuff isn't going to work anymore. Too many people are handing out bags these days.

I think 15 years from now college football will be basically D3 football or club-level stuff, and what is currently college football will basically become minor-league football / NFL development league. There's no way the current system is sustainable. This revenue sharing is going to drive a lot of schools out of the athletics business altogether.

In all seriousness…

I don’t blame Mbawke going after money. However, these kids are not focused on Football. It has shown all fricking year.

Go after the right talent. Pay the right people.

If we pay folks a shite ton of money. They better meet the fricking criteria of what they need to do.

Mbakwe didnt do enough to be the starter this year. The New Wave Podcast is fricking AWFUL. They can’t even focus on having a conversation without being on their phone. I can only imagine how film session goes.

Ryan Williams hit a wall mid season and began dropping balls that were fairly critical.

Time to get kids in that want to be football players and not celebrities then break the bank.

I am well aware that every generation has been seen as a disaster in their youth by older people so maybe I'm wrong, but the Zoomers seem genuinely fricked up to me. You can't grow up on social media and have influencer culture/consumerism constantly pushed down your throat and turn into well adjusted adults. Tons of them prioritize celebrity because that's what they've grown up being told success looks like.

Now that Travis Hunter got a Heisman for having mid level success at 2 positions, every kid that played WR and DB in high school is going to want to try the same shite

If we’re keeping him fine, I’m happy. Really don’t like where this is headed if it’s true tho

This is the logical step for a culture that values "frick you got mine" capitalism, an obsession with individualism that leads to toxic narcissism, and crass consumerism. When you have no shared culture, actively encourage advancement by fricking over anyone you can hustle (MLMs, etc), and tell everyone happiness is in the next fast food hamburger or smartphone...don't be surprised when you end up with a final product entering adulthood like the zoomers.

I agree and it shows on every team. The NCAA better rein this in because their product is killing itself. There’s not one team that a 2019 LSU or 2020 Bama wouldn’t absolutely skull frick. BTW, those teams are history. Never again could you recruit/develop a super team.

No one would give him time but we need players like Hubbard or that cowboy collar kid from Oklahoma. Did anyone think that bastard wouldn’t leave it all on the field?

Yep, 2019 is probably the high watermark for college football. There were a half dozen teams that year that would whoop any of the champions from the last 3 years.

Whatever you do don't blame the billionaire tech bros and owners of media conglomerates for any of this though. God forbid we hold any of them accountable for the immeasurable damage they've done to society.

Be glad Alabama has the scratch to do these things.

We do. And we don't. (have the scratch).

If this truly comes down to money, then we will not compete with Ohio State, Michigan, Texas/A&M, Oregon etc.

We have wealthy donors who are passionate about football. But they aren't as wealthy or as numerous as some of these other larger schools in richer areas with larger alumni bases.

There's going to have to be a salary cap type situation if anyone outside the top 5 or 6 wealthiest hopes win big again.

Will not happen unless contracts are required and they will be employees that are no longer student athletes.

The Supreme Court ruling was not some think it was. It stated that the NCAA as an organization can not prohibit NIL as the structure did not provide them the authority. Which basically told the NCAA any attempt to prevent NIL or what is happening in the portal would not be allowed due to the organization limited authority in those matters.

But once they get contracts and become employees of the university which looks to be the direction we are headed NIL, transfers, and things like salary caps will be able to be enforced without concern to the courts.

Getting to know the players and watch them grow through 3-4 years of college ball was part of the fun of following college football. A handful of transfers every season to fill needs is one thing, but replacing half the team with one and done players every season is just boring. Starting to feel like the awful NFL.

Ole Miss has a 12-man staff of analyst JUST for player personnel.

They have had this since at least 2022 and have used them to scout in-season talent of college football teams to create a list of talent they will by at the portal.

The reality is college football has really changed and we need to get on board with this as well. We not only need a bigger and better team of analyst for our gameplan and adjustments; we need the same with our GM for finding the best talents on all levels.

At this point even high school recruiting is pretty much unimportant unless you believe the kid can come and start that year or if it's a QB.

Travis Hunter won the Biletnikoff award for best WR and the Chuck Bendarik award for defensive player of the year. He didn't have mid level success, he won the 2 awards for being the best at those positions.

But he wasn’t the best at either. He was in the the top 5 or so, but not the best.
