Didn't see this posted, and I just saw the story this morning ... I'm saddened over the loss of a young man I didn't even know and never met.

You will be missed, Fluff.

The Athletic Department has a nice homage pinned on their Twitter page LINK

They held a memorial yesterday at 1 pm at Coleman and honored him before each athletic event on campus yesterday. Such a sad situation. Coach Hodgson started a Go Fund Me for the family (easily found on Google) and it has raised over $44,000 in less than 24 hrs. Great to see the Bama nation (and rival fan bases) come together to support the family at such a tragic time.

Roll Tide, Luke!

Was he attending all these events without having been vaccinated?

I hope everyone stays safe until they get their vaccine. Pointless to die when everyone is just another 4 or 6 weeks away from being vaccinated. Ive only got a couple more weeks before my second shot. Never looked forward to a shot this much before.

At 23, he wasn't eligible to be vaccinated in Alabama when those events were happening. Mississippi didn't expand to all ages until March 16, so even if he'd gone there he couldn't have gotten the second shot (Moderna or PFizer) or had enough time pass for the effect to be in full force before the games even if he got the J&J. Also at 23, even being visibly overweight, his risk was still quite low.

Couple more thoughts - I'm no anti-vaxxer at all. I got mine right after they became available to first responders - but they're not foolproof either. One of our guys that also got vaccinated right around the same time as me tested positive a month after getting his second shot. Also, there's no way to tell where he was infected and it's incredibly flawed thinking to assume it was at or around a ball game. Sure, it could have been, but it's far more likely to have happened during his regular life events.

The Best Way to Honor Alabama Superfan Luke Ratliff is to Live Like He Did with Unwavering Positivity and Unmatched Energy (SI)

Luke Ratliff will forever be remembered as an Alabama legend but his life offered up so many lessons for everyone to learn and apply to their own lives

I have a few nurse friends who say they're seeing vaccinated people with COVID regularly.

Like I said in another thread, a vaccine isn’t perfect but it just takes one look at places like Israel where there’s a high rate of vaccinations to tell that they’re having a very significant impact on transmission rates.

Maybe. Could just be the virus has run its course.

No. Easily refuted by looking at the numbers across Europe or even at US states. New Jersey’s a prime example. Same population, similar density, about 15% vaccinated and 10 times the per day new infection rate.

It is helping a lot.

I’m not talking to anyone specifically, but I really don’t think this is a good thread to debate the vaccine or any opinions on Covid. RIP Luke. He clearly made an impact past the Basketball arena. Thoughts and prayers to his family and many friends.

RBR assembled quite the collection of tweets in reaction to news of Luke’s passing. For those following the story, you’ll be glad you took a few moments to peruse these.
