What if we've already had one all along? Armstrong?

He is. Did he struggle at Auburn with recruiting?

He wasn’t talked about as a guy that was a great recruiter, but I do know he wants to work in the state of Alabama. That’s a fact. He would 100% love to move from Miami to Tuscaloosa. That’s per his daughter.

I think he did a great job at Auburn. He took over what Will Muschamp helped build, and he continued the work. We had a lot of really good recruiters as assistants so it’s not like he really had to recruit. That’s what he could be at Alabama.

He probably wants to get vested in state retirement

I care more about our players success and our program than Steele's state retirement. I hope Saban surely would not let Steele retirement enter his process of choosing a DC.

He also had this doozy on tRant

Without superior talent, Saban would win far less. He isn't going to "out coach" really good coaches.

You know, I hadn't considered it before but I am now very concerned that Nick Saban might hire a bad coach to run our defense as a sort of charity so he can get service time for his pension.

That bastard!

This is incredible how we went from Graham to Steele badmouthing..... New name will emerge soon and everyone will feast on that person

Gotta hand it to the mental midgets:

Steele, who had one spectacularly bad game in a consolation bowl, is basically the same hire as a man who routinely has bad games.

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s Steele for a couple years until Saban thinks Armstrong is ready to handle it by himself

He was Rivals' national recruiter of the year in 2005.

Something to think about when considering the possibility of Kevin Steele as DC - He has never coached safeties and we already have an inside linebacker's coach in Armstrong. We would still need a safeties coach unless someone already on staff is going to move to that position.

I am almost getting that it won’t be Steele. The fact that we have heard his name tossed around makes me believe that he likely isn’t the dude.

Just got a word this afternoon that Saban is zeroing in on Jerry B. Whitworth. A deal could be reached by tomorrow
