DeBoer is a sensational hire.

They skeered!

I think the most appropriate reaction to look at is the absolute meltdown of the Washington fan base. They are universally and absolutely pissed.

Both Mark Slabach and Collin Cowher has stated that DeBoer was the top choice from the start.

Was listening to a Bama on line Youtube type program, forget which one exactly, but its one of the bigger channels that are. you know, connected.

Here is what they said, when Saban got back, he had 25 players coming to him wanting to renegotiate their NIL's. I truly think that fits the narrative, he was reviewing a WR coach in the morning, the retired that evening, I truly think those 25 plyers doing that made him quit. Sad what CFB has come to.

Think he's gonna be very good. Needs to nail the defensive hires tho.

Shoot, Oregon fans are glad he's gone. I was reading some of their board last night.

I have no issue with Washington or its fans and I understand why they would be sad, but I don't get being angry about it. If you have any self-awareness as a Washington fan, you have to understand that Alabama is a much bigger program. And it's not like DeBoer quit on them before the season was over like Franchione did. He didn't lie and say he wasn't leaving. I don't really see any legitimate reason for them to be mad at him.

I saw a U of Washington fan page on Twitter thanking DeBoer and wishing him luck “on the next phase of your journey.” I think most rational Husky fans get it.

See LSU reaction to Saban going to Alabama, and he didn't leave LSU to go to Alabama

This is probably where he'll lean on Saban's opinions and suggestions. Saban's smart enough to be able to influence him without seemingly "pushing" him, and if he's smart, he'll listen when Saban talks.

He's an excellent coach. Bama could not have done better. I was worried about a situation where a legit great coach would not want to follow Saban, but we managed to land just that. Beyond thrilled.

There was 4 players off my HS 55 team that signed with Ears.

One had the 5 longest punt in Bama history at 81 yards.

That was 1959 vs Memphis State and Dad and I were there.

Tommy White was the punter and his sister Carolyn married an assistant coach from Bibb County Pete Steele and presto you have a Coach Kevin Steele. Small world.

Not doubting you in any way, but can you go back and link that episode? Would like to hear it myself, and maybe get a better sense of the sources.

Astonishing if true...

We are in for some interesting times in the near future. I am not sure why JosieWales mentioned Ears Whitworth, but it gives me an opportunity to discuss those strange times for Alabama football. The time between Red Drew and Bryant were truly strange at Alabama. The president, Dr. Carmichael, at the time did not care about football. My brother born in 1936 was in school then and he told me he sent a questionnaire out to the students asking if they wanted to deemphasize or drop football. Of course that was the last straw and they finally cleaned house and hired Bryant and a football friendly president Dr. Rose. I started at Alabama in 1958 the same year Bryant started. Alabama has a fascinating football history and the next few years will add to it.
