re: Yall, I really miss coach already….

Hope we can stay away from the divisiveness here, there's just no need.
Not gonna lie, it hit me hard. What are you gonna do. I blame myself because nobody should get that invested in sports, but here we are...and there are certainly far worse ways to live one's life.
Coach Saban was always a steadying force for me. Sometimes, when I was having a bad day, I'd just think there was that guy out there who was just tirelessly grinding through much greater obstacles every day, for years on end. And always doing the right thing, while remaining a decent human being.
I think the greater sin would have been to not appreciate it along the way, which I never did. Never took a second of the ride for granted.
All that said, glad he left when he did. As always, he called his own shot!

AJ McCarron Barret Jones tussling up 42-14 late in the National Championship....it was the personification of the Bama Standard. No let up, endlessly seeking perfection under Coach Saban.
Could NOT have been prouder of that team!

Mr. Saban goes to Washington

Maybe he does leave, but given how tight-knit these dudes have been the past few years I'd be surprised if he does
Agreed. They would have had to have discussed timelines/commitment prior to Grubb accepting the OC position, especially since he's been a hot property for a couple of years now.
To me, it wouldn't be so much the loss of Grubb himself (which would be a huge blow so late in the hiring window), but rather how it would reflect on Coach DeBoer's ability to hire/retain staff.

Money ruins everything. There's not a single negative development in the sport that can't be traced back to pursuing more revenue (or personal gain)

He was also instrumental in the Michigan turnaround. He's probably going to be as important (non-HC) a staffer as the strength & conditioning coordinator.

Not doubting you in any way, but can you go back and link that episode? Would like to hear it myself, and maybe get a better sense of the sources.

Winning covers a multitude of sins, as the saying goes...
I think CNS has taken a 'go along to get along' approach in some respects in recent years to placate the modern athlete. Personally I'd rather he lose a bunch of players to the portal going back to doing it HIS way here on in. Anything less will accelerate some of the slippage we've already seen the last couple of seasons.
Same holds true holding his coaching staff to a higher standard.

I was surprised also that Michigan looked like the more physical, athletic team.
One thing can't be denied, Michigan put together a perfect gameplan on defense/offense and had a veteran team.
It still took Alabama playing it's 'C' game however, which still resulted in an OT loss
Felt like the first time "Coach Nick Saban with a month to prepare" didn't result in a team that was up to the challenge

Can't blame him for trying a different approach after poor performances in recent playoffs/bowl games.
Sounds like he's trying to mirror CNS bowl prep, which you do at your own peril
