How do y’all think he will do in his first season as the starter?

His got big shoes to fill, but he is the highest rated QB we’ve had in forever. Should be fun.

He needs Spring football to happen more than any player on our roster.

I'm not knocking his talent, he's elite. But we've lost our OC and play caller so Bryce and BOB need the Spring to get on the same page.

Not to mention he didn't get one last year.

Spring is definitely happening though, right?

I expect practice to absolutely happen, and I'm sure they will scrimmage at least a couple times. Not sure if any A-Day games are going to take place.

To be honest, he looked pretty sorry when he saw the time last season. It’s unfair to judge him on that though given he didn’t even have spring ball.

It was pretty clear he never developed chemistry with our starting group of receivers probably because he never had the chance to.

I thought he looked pretty good against Missouri, but I don't really remember him getting much of an opportunity to do much after that.

Missouri & Kentucky he showed flashes. Seemed like he only came in on victory formation the remainder of the season.

Really? I remember a terrible fumble, him missing a wide open WR for TD and only getting a field goal after taking over inside the red zone. This was a long time ago though, so I could be forgetting a lot.

I’m not judging him moving forward based on any of this, but outside of a couple “That was a good ball” moments, he didn’t look good this past season in limited time.

I don't know what more you were expecting than to see a couple flashes here and there. He probably threw 15 passes all season.

I don't remember what game it was, but he came in fairly early in the season and his first play was a beautiful 30-yard pass on the sideline. He dropped it right in the receiver's hands, over the DB. I was blown away.

But y'all are right ... I wish he'd gotten to run more of the offense in 2020.

2017 Tua is going to be the benchmark people set for backup QBs now unfortunately. Even though that was a complete outlier and literally every other starting QB Saban has had looked like crap outside of a few throws when they came in for mop up duty. AJ looked bad, Sims looked bad, Coker looked bad, Mac looked bad. They all turned out just fine as starters though.

Seeing less bad plays would’ve been nice.

I’m sure he’ll be fine, but when he played this past season, he threw behind his receiver several times, held the ball too long and missed open guys.

He did not look like freshman year Tua which he was supposed to be better than according to many. I think he has a ton of potential and will be a great player for us, but I’ve tempered my expectations from what he was supposed to be coming in.

I mean a ton of this board said he would take over from Mac by the UGA game. He didn’t show anything close to that in the little time he did play.

Yes but Bryce Young was supposed to be WAY better than all these guys. I’d say over half Bama fans predicted to me he’d start at some point last season.

All I’m saying is I’m tempering my expectations from THAT based on what I saw.

Meh, he was alright in limited action and in a number of plays the line was the culprit not him. He threw 22 passes against all SEC opponents, none of the other guys had to contend with that.

Bryce will be fine. My only gripe I have ever had with Saban is not getting backup QBs and WRs meaningful snaps in blowouts. He has a good arm and seemed to know where to go with the ball. It is hard to judge him when basically all he did was handoff , handoff , handoff / possible pass when he came in with second stringers and the defense had their ears pinned back

It kind of goes with Saban’s philosophy. Once you are up and going to win...take the foot of the gas. Go vanilla and heavy run. Let the clock hit zeros and get out there.

I would have loved to see Bryce get a chance with the playbook, but he missed out on spring ball. If we can get spring ball, I think he will look a lot better. Plus, it will get Paul and Jalen some meaningful snaps.

Tua got to come in and run offense, and the "backup" receivers he was playing with were Jeudy, Ruggs, and Smith. Young was not allowed to run offense. He came in and it was drain the clock time. Trying to compare him to Tua is absurd.

Well, he had no spring and limited summer, limited fall, and Mac played better than any other quarterback in college football. So yeah, that will hurt your chances of beating out a veteran.
