It's awesome, but I'd settle right now for just more great than good seasons.

Hell of a chore to step up and follow the GOAT at a program with such a history of football expectations.

Everything says he is up to the task. to what lies ahead for the program.

May we all temper expectations and be patient, which seems the more unlikely task.

Simple tasks this year for a great season.

Beat Auburn
Beat Tennessee
Beat LSU
Beat Oklahoma
Beat Wisconsin
Make the playoffs
Win a playoff game

That's a successful season for year 1.

You hear this all the time about Alabama, but the stats actually suggest it's much more patient than most programs. Only three Alabama coaches have been fired in the program's history - Ears Whitworth, Mike DuBose, Mike Shula. DuBose and Shula were both given four full years. Whitworth got three despite going 4-24 over his time there. There are multiple programs in this conference who have fired head coaches within 24 months of a national title.

I don't know much about Ears but Shula and Dubose were both position coaches who really had no business running the program though I'll give Shula the benefit of the doubt given the situation at the time of his hiring.

And sadly, half the fanbase wanted Shula retained in 2006. In retrospect though, the Shula era is met with too much unwarranted hostility. Yes it was a "dark period" but he also dealt with the strain of scholarship limitations and injuries to every key player each season. I mean, when Auburn rolled around in 2004, we were down to a third string walk on at QB. Yet we still came close to ruining their perfect season.

It's difficult for any coach to win when your depth chart is depleted and you can't keep your key players healthy. Hell, even Saban's 2007 team fell apart after the texbtook scandal suspensions. Despite that, Shula still left Bama with a winning record, was an OT loss to LSU from winning the west in year 3 and his teams were in every game until the depth chart started to show in the 4th quarter.

But it is rich watching all these opposing fans (who nuked us for firing Shula) run off coaches who had far better success than Shula did and in some cases, a shorter time period.

We are going to have a really good to great season. The talent is there and losing the goat but getting better guys coaching that talent up and putting them in better spots to be successful, especially on offense, is going to be fun to watch.

There is so much new this year.

New coach at Bama
12 team Playoff
Teams in new conferences
Microphones in helmets
2 minute warning (timeout)
Players that transferred to new places

What did I miss?

Very true.

Also when you look at the shite show of Alabama football post-Bryant, none of those coaches had a good resume coming in.
DeBoer has the best resume of any head football coach Alabama has ever hired aside from Saban.

Exactly. Our expectations should be what they should be.
We have THE MOST TALENTED ROSTER IN THE COUNTRY.

We have A RETURNING QB.

We should expect nothing less than a top 5 finish, and if we get good QB play, we should win the natty.

So we're going to raise the surrender flag when Georgia comes to town?

I'm a realist when it comes to Alabama sports.

Undefeated this year.

In football.

And basketball.

They throw the ball a ton and score a bunch of points.

Our TE coach helped install the air raid offense that they currently run.

TJ Finley year 6? He is capable of throwing the ball all over the yard. We need to get some pressure on him or he will be able to test our secondary.

Bama is going to beat them by 10+. It's circled on the schedule and is just what they do.
