I think the better question is how does Saban go out? Does he announce it pre-season that this is his last season, or does he get to the end of the year and announce it? Does he wait until after NSD? Does he pull a Spurrier and just retire mid-season?

I have had several conversations lately in regards to "if he wins, is he done?" My thoughts are if he wants to go out this is the team to do it on (assuming they win) the greatest coach of all time retiring after his greatest coaching job; perhaps of his career. However, I think he says AT LEAST one more. He has a relatively young team this year and this group has over exceeded what almost everyone thought they could. A second year with Jalen and a lot of returning starters could be a back to back situation again. It isn't that he needs it to be the GOAT, he is already that. I just think this team may have re-lit a fire in the old man.

Barners throwing shite on a wall in attempting for it to stick one day so they can be proven correct!
It’s all contingent on his health, but I could see him going another 5-6 seasons. Who knows but him and Miss Terry, but he may have some goals in his head that helps to push him. Could it be 10 Natty’s? 350+ wins?

I think he likes coaching kids like Caleb Downs. As long as he has coachable defensive backs he’ll hang on as long as health permits.
At the end of the day he’s a ball coach and what he loves most is teaching defensive backs.

Yes.

I would be very surprised if this were his last year. He seems to really like this core group, the substantial majority who are back next year. Plus, you’d think k he’d want to be the first to win the 12 team playoff (though he probably doesn’t think in those terms).
Longer term, I think you have to wonder if the wins record is of any interest to him. I don’t think it is a driving factor but who really knows.

He's 8 wins away from 300. I have to think he wants that milestone as only 5 have ever reached it in FBS

He returns almost his entire offense next year. 12 team playoff. Not happening.
One thing ppl don't understand about Nick. He isn't leaving while he's still winning. He loves it too much. Why walk away when you're still dominating the sport?
He'll leave when his health starts to diminish or if we start to lose 2-4 games a year.

This is the answer. Got a legit baller coming in at QB, finally solved some defensive woes or at least greatly improved, still in greath health. Why would he?

I don’t think Saban really cares about going out on top or what not, he enjoys the grind and the work and the process more than he does winning. He’s sick like that and it’s why he’s so good
He’ll retire when he stops enjoying that, not win he wins a championship.
That says I wouldn’t be surprised at this point if any year was his last.

I think he stays until his health wont let him.

If I was him, I would’ve retired as soon as Tua hit Devonta on 2nd and 26
but Coach isn’t built like me.
Leaving after winning it this year would make a lot of sense, but I tend to think he would be too curious about the expanded playoff, like others have said.

We're not going to waste time speculating on someone's future. Hell tell us when he wants to. Just enjoy this ride. Quit trying to push him out the door.

Terry Saban is probably the biggest reason why Nick decided to take the job at Bama and probably will be the day Nick decides to retire. She has a tremendous influence with him I think
Mal Moore knew this and even said it. Mal knew if he won her over he would convince him to come and he did and the rest is history

I agree, I doubt he’s going anytime soon - mainly because of this.
Also, I was surprised by what Marshall told reporters after the Ga game…about how appreciative he was that Saban broke him down and then rebuilt him into a much better LB once he got to Bama. That statement tells you a lot about the respect these players have for Saban.

IMO if he’s going to ride out based on any specific player, it will be Caleb Downs

I don’t want it to happen. Just shaking the bushes seeing what comes out.
