Is Cristobal's star starting to lose a bit of its shine?

Granted, he went 10-2 last year, but his last two losses have been ugly...blowing a 12 point 4th quarter lead to a bad Oregon State team and following that up with a loss to Cal, the worst team in his division.

Not good at all in year 3. That kind of fall back in a year 3 at Alabama would be totally unacceptable.

Yeah, especially considering he had Justin Herbert last season. He’s not gonna ever have a better QB

Definitely not a good start to the year. I blame the late start, avg QB , opt outs , etc for their start this year. He is a great recruiter and I assume will probably win the conference next year. What makes me nervous about him is he has never been a coordinator (other than name only ) by himself . I think coaches , I know a few exceptions like Dabo, need expertise on one side of the ball if things start to go awry . I do think that when Saban hangs it up , and after realistic candidates are pursued, that he will be on the list somewhere . Hell if nothing else , his wife would be nice to look at

If Urban ends up at USC, Cristobal is going to kick himself for not capitalizing on these past two seasons.

Worked at UofO for a few years during the Chip era and stay in touch with people out there - they absolutely love Cristobal. Now that is Oregon admin, alum and staff, talking fans I don’t really know. He could go 0 for the year this year and I don’t think it would matter out West. I think next year will be the year Oregon needs to show for it to be a successful career there.

Absolutely.

Before the season, on my wish list had him and Sark at 2a and 2b, in no particular order, after Dabo. Not now. I would strongly prefer Sark over Cristobal now.

Sure, we had 3 losses in 2010 after winning a national championship, but those three losses were to 3 damn good football teams. Cristobal's last two games would be like our defending champions in 2018 losing to 5-7 Ole Miss and 2-10 Arkansas.

Yeah, he's a terrific recruiter, so maybe he can turn things around next year. He won't be on the hot seat to keep his job necessarily, but his star will definitely fade in terms of his next opportunities if he doesn't follow up this year with a strong 2021.

This year has been bad for them, but he is probably a good example of getting a bit of a COVID year pass.

By next year they should CLEARLY have the best roster in the P12 North. If they stumble around again then it definitely will.

The Oregon State game was the fog-bowl 2.0 against their biggest rival. Those kind of things happen. But being in a 60 minute game with UCLA and losing to Cal with the talent they have is a bad look

Honestly though its looking like Saban is gonna be around for a bit longer and by the time he retires, we'll have much more info on the current up and coming coaches. If you were told in 2014 that Charlie Strong would be in Tuscaloosa in 2020, some might have assumed he would be the Head Coach

It was foggy the entire game and they managed to build a double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Just playing the devils advocate. It’s a bad loss don’t get me wrong.

Yeah, he's still a good HC but the shine is definitely off a little bit this season.

I think Saban is there at least 5 more years, and in that time the entire landscape might change in terms of who the top guys are.

I'm trying to remember - who would have been the guys 5 years ago we were all discussing as possible replacements?

Jimbo? Early Dabo?

Yeah, there'a reason this dude is not on my Saban successor list. I've followed this guy going back to his FIU days so I knew about him for awhile now. Cristobal is good for 10 win seasons b/c of his recruiting but as far as taking a program to the mountaintop? Who knows.

Reminds me of Butch Davis.

I'm on the Jim Leonhard bandwagon. Of course I predicted Anthony Grant to Bama years before it happened and knew Bobby Petrino would win at UL. So I'm 50/50 on the predictions.

Hey! Former CFP contender Oregon!? Welcome to The Bottom 10 (espn)

This week's Bottom 10 gives a special shoutout to the Oregon Ducks, who were going to be the just-good-enough team to make Ryan McGee take the Pac-12 seriously. Now, they're seriously good enough for his latest Bottom 10 list.

I don't really care for the CEO model. Having it work out like it has for Clemson is just so improbable. Any other program that has experienced that kind of success is going to be constantly replacing assistants, which leads to greater variability in results if your HC isn't able to take control of one side of the ball. The other end of the spectrum is what Shrimp Boat Ed is doing to LSU. He inherited a great DC, lucked into one grand slam hire, and has otherwise funneled money into his BBQ buddies pockets. I think Mario is somewhere in the middle.
