Yea - agree. Mario definitely isn't a "I don't know anything about running a offense/defense" guy, but he also isn't a offensive or defensive guru guy like Lincoln Riley or Kirby or Mullen.

Yeah, there'a reason this dude is not on my Saban successor list. I've followed this guy going back to his FIU days so I knew about him for awhile now. Cristobal is good for 10 win seasons b/c of his recruiting but as far as taking a program to the mountaintop? Who knows.

I mean he will be one for two in conference championships so at least he has one under his belt . There are several articles talking about the strength and toughness he instilled in one year to the team and he is trying to instill that culture to west coast football which has lacked physicality since Pete Carroll USC days . He needs to finish up strong and improve next year but I wouldn’t write him off as a bad coach after a 3-2 start in year two of limited to no prep time during Covid

I'll be honest - assuming that the drinking thing is still something he is seriously 100% on top of keeping under control, I'd be completely content handing things over to Sark when Saban goes.

I'm not sure I'd do that if I was another program that needed to build from scratch, but as a caretaker of what we have right now I feel pretty good about the fact that we would keep rolling for at least 4-5 years. His recruiting, offensive chops and at the very worst average program running abilities are more than enough for me - especially combined with 4-5 of working directly with Saban and being the right hand guy in the program.

I think it'd be very similar to Ryan Day right now at Ohio State. And hey, if things start falling off in 5-6 years, you start looking around for something else. That's a pretty damn good post-Saban scenario to me.

Sarkisian
- great recruiter? Yes
- great innovative and forward thinking offensive mind? Yes
- knows the ins and outs of how our program functions and runs? Yes
- respected and trusted by Saban? Yes
- major head coaching experience? Yes
- relatively young? Yes

Just seems like way too logical a fit to me - again, assuming everyone who truly knows feels good about the drinking thing.

There are so many risks with almost EVERYONE else - the continuation factor with the guy who runs and innovates the offense (which is paramount in 2020) gives him a BIG leg up on almost anyone else, IMHO.

Yeah I think Mario is a lot more like Dabo than he is a meathead jackass like O, but the odds of anyone being able to recreate that kind of staff continuity are practically nil and I think that continuity is why Dabo is as successful as he is. I don't even think Dabo could recreate it here. It's one of the most inexplicable things I've ever seen in college football that doesn't involve Auburn. That's why I would prefer a guy who has a high level of expertise on one side of the ball.

Delete that shite lest any of the LSU folks see that. Hold the line. No Covid passes.

I would absolutely take him, with that condition.

And it's a big condition, and one that will never go away. So it's absolutely a risk. But, with that in mind, I feel like I've seen enough at this point to feel good about it overall.

I agree. Dabo is literally the only coach they could hire where I would feel pretty comfortable that our continued success at this level would be a given. Everyone else is a crapshoot, and Sark I think has the best odds at being successful. And for all we know, the AD already may have a mechanism currently in place that's helping make sure Sark stays on the wagon.

I think Saban is there at least 5 more years, and in that time the entire landscape might change in terms of who the top guys are.

I'm trying to remember - who would have been the guys 5 years ago we were all discussing as possible replacements?

Jimbo? Early Dabo?

Did you say 5 years ago? Athlon had a good article but the link may be bad.
Of their list 6-7 are progressing while the rest are fizzling at best...
