haha true

their championship game passing #'s are both hilarious

Jay 4-18/18 yards 2 INT's
Jalen 3-8/21 yards

that's 7 for 26, 31 yards and 2 INT's

and we won both games Roll Tide!

(although Barker was going to complete a huge pass to someone and there was interference or did Sherman throw that pass? It was a big gain for us).

What is even more interesting is how you compared the stats of a guy after 4 years in the program with the stats of a guy with two years in the program.

Care to guess Barker’s ypa after his JUNIOR season?

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

7.6

Imagine that.

Boy, that really changes MY perception. His stats are actually just as good as Barker's. Dang.

;) I shouldn't reply to these threads.

Is today your first in the internet?

Whatever grandiose point you thought I was making, I wasn't. And your previous post simply solidified my actual point.

Barker, love the guy, but he was not a good passer. Not. At. All.

Hurts' stats are very, very comparable.

'Cause he's not a good passer either.

Simple.

Like you.

Throw in McElroy’s 2010 BCS game stats...6 of 11, 58 yards.

Combined 13 for 37, 89 yards, 2 TDs = 3 NCs.

Aaaaaaaand...

Who gives a flying satchell of arse about years in the system?

Are you seriously trying to say that Hurts, an early enrollee, son of his HS head coach, multiple year starter in HS, multiple year starter in CFB, who played in an era of summer QB camps and high paid QB coaches, has had less opportunity for development over Jay Barker, who started only one year of HS football in the triple-option scheme before stepping onto campus in 1991 and playing 4 years in what amounts to the stone-age, era-wise?

Shut your pie hole. edited for less assholishness

Now that I got that off my chest, sorry for insulting you. Roll Tide. Feel free to get your shot in, though. It's only fair.

This pretty much sums it all up. I'm not sure why people are getting upset and pissy about it. Facts are facts

I, for one, just got fired up to talk about anything.

However, it is possible to love Hurts and appreciate his contribution to the Roll Tide and also believe and state the fact that he's not a good passer.

Maybe it's the PC generation. Would everyone feel better if we gave Hurts a participation trophy?

You we're just defending yourself. Folks are getting mad because you put up stats
I'm thankful for Hurts and what he's done, but I'm not gonna defend his downfield passing. It's bad. I felt the same about Barker. Every time he dropped back I felt a horrible rush of anxiety. The offense that Barker was in was fricking horrible and I hated it. It was brutal to watch.

Yeah, I was with you until you threw in that bit of stupidity. They are bad, but they certainly are not comparable.

ATT Comp Pct Yards YA AYA TD Int Rating

402 706 56.9 5689 8.1 7.3 26 24 130.0

394 637 61.9 4861 7.6 8.2 40 10 143.5

That's 4 years, vs. 2. There's nothing comparable about that. Hurts also has 1800 yards rushing and 21 rushing TD's.
So Hurts 6600 total yards, 61 total TD's, 10 ints, 143.5 rating in 2 seasons.
Barker 5400 total yards, 26 total TD's, 24 ints, 130.0 rating in 4.

If you break it down by game or even by season, the difference is embarrassing for Barker.

Barker was a true freshman in 1990.

Fun fact: Jay Barker was older in his first Bama appearance (1991) than Hurts was in his final appearance.

Thank you for making my point.

Hurts is not a very good passer and he will not start for Bama this fall, but to compare him to Barker is insulting to Hurts. Until his senior season, Barker was much worse.

While Hurts has obviously and admirably protected the football much better than Barker did, their numbers are incredibly comparable when you consider that Hurts averaged nearly twice as many attempts/game, played in an era and system to feature the pass at least 50/50, and only hit 5% more on average.

Barker was a gamer at times, but his overall passing prowess and stats are quite bad, and at best you can only justify a small improvement in Hurts stats when comparing, and that says A LOT.

A super lotta ton of a lot.

Hurts is only a smidge, smidge-and-a-half better at passing than Barker, and that's not near good enough to QB Bama going forward.

Simply put, to my eye, Hurts and Barker leave a similar percentage of plays on the field in the passing game, and like someone said earlier, it's painful to watch.
