If you could call the defense this Saturday how would you stop lsu?

Man w/blitz, Zone? 3 man pass rush? 2 high safety?

Here's what I wouldn't do. I wouldn't give a ten yard cushion the entire game to their WR's.

I wonder with our starting dlineman out if he did that because we couldn't get a pass rush. Whatever his excuse was he should change it up when it's not working

Treydez Green is a holy fricking terror. No shite, he's the real deal. So whatever Womack does, it better include minimizing the number of balls Green catches.

So that probably means rushing the ever loving shite out of Sam Leavitt, knowing full well, he'll still connect from time to time.

We have no single player or combination of players that can cover Treydez Green. So we'll have to force Leavitt to throw some errant balls.

Mitigating the damage Green can cause is key winning this game. The guy is no joke. He's the most fetch player LSU has.

4 is a bigger threat to me. He's been dominant for them at times

I disagree that he is a "holy fricking terror." He's no Brock Bowers. Or Mark Bowman. His production in college is about on par with Josh Cuevas. He's a big dude that can move pretty well, but his hands are pretty average. Is he a possible mismatch because of his size? Sure, but he's been contained way more often than not in his career.

We gave up a lot of passing yards against Georgia (249) and Tenn (197). Our pass rush is ok at best. LSU's offense averages 318.0 passing yards per game. Their season high is 428 against auburn, the last team they played. LSU is peaking on offense and they had a week off to heal. They will be very very pumped to play #5 Bama at home. I'm sure Kiffin will have a good game plan.......Have no idea what miracle defensive plan Wommack will come up with to slow LSU. I can't predict a great outcome based on everything considered. I do not see us holding on to that #5 playoff ranking.

Die with your boots on. Don't sit back in soft coverages being scared to give up a big play. Get after the QB. He's prone to mistakes. Crowd the line of scrimmage on early downs to stuff the run and force the QB to beat you. He's going to hit a few, but he'll cough up some, too. Don't play scared.

If history is any indication, I do not think Wommack will heed your game plan, even if it isn't working. I said it a few weeks ago but Wommack still has a lot of the mentality a smaller school would have when they play a bigger school. Lay back, don't give up the big play, and hope they make a mistake. Meanwhile they are chewing up yards. It makes the defense stay on the field for a long time. And if the offense goes 3 and out much, the defense ends up wearing out by the end of the game. We are not very deep on D and have some injuries.

If I were KW, I would have been correcting our bad tendencies in practice that each team notices. I would have designed more blitz packages that we haven't ran so far. I would give up the 10 yard cushion on their receivers. #5 would have been working at safety or nickel for 2 weeks.14 would definitely get more playing time. I would understand and see when kiffin makes adjustment and would adjust accordingly. I don't know the status of their rb jones but he is going to be a factor for them. We have to be able to wrap up and tackle and get him on the ground.

Dang. I kinda hope this is wrong. Some of his game plans disprove this, but plenty do not. In his favor: 2024 LSU, 2025 UGA, 2025 Tennessee, 2025 CFP OU, 2026 Kentucky, 2026 S Car.
Against: 2024 UGA, 2024 OU, 2024 Michigan, 2025 FSU, 2025 South Carolina, 2025 SECCG, 2025 IU, 2026 FSU, 2026 Tennessee.

hmm... have a direct line to jeremy pruitt and dont argue.

but seriously, give lee jr 1 pi then bench him. could be the most important move of the game.

Agree with this. What I’d like to see:

1. Our corners man up about 12 inches from the LOS. None of this give them 10-15 yards. That is absolute lunacy.

2. Unless it’s 3rd or 4th and 30+ yards, none of this rushing three guys. Need to have a minimum of four guys applying pressure at all times.

3. SET THE EDGE!!!!! Our defense is very inconsistent (at best) in setting the edge and not losing contain. Must be more consistent.

You are correct. We don't have a defensive problem. We have an offensive problem.

In a chess match my gut would say kiffin, but with some caviots.
Lane from past experience will always have a great game plan and will seek to take advantage of any weakness. Lane from past experience has shown that he tends to overthink things and tries to outsmart himself if he get desperate.
Im hopeful that we can stuff the run game and he has to rely on his QB.

Kane has shown for short increments that he can call a good game and make good adjustments. Im with everyone about the bend don't break defense, it's frustrating. He needs to have our guys ready to stuff the run and make lane adjust. He needs to be ready to adjust to that because we tend to get burned a lot. Again , if he can come up with some relentless pressure , we have a chance.

With Leavits ability to run and sporadic passing I’d assume zone coverage and a mush rush to keep him in pocket. That’s my guess but it could s hard to stop a runner like him if you’re in man.
