I truly think we'll be ok. Between what will be inherited and my trust in Byrne to hire somebody who works, I don't think we're gonna end up burning the program to the ground like we have in the past or others have. That doesn't mean the insane wing of our fanbase won't run a guy off for averaging 10 wins a season after 3-4 years, but I don't think we're going to hire somebody who leads us into the abyss by year 4.

I look around the league and just think "what if we hired _________, what would his first 5 years look like?" and the a lot of them I see winning big and then settling into being solid coaches. Doesn't mean I want to hire those guys specifically, but just kind of makes me realize that there are a lot of options that would be ok for a while (better than ok the first 3-4 years).

Kirby, Stoops, Mullen, Jimbo, Kiffin, hell even Harsin or Pittman. Orgeron is his own weird, Louisiana thing. Leach....his own weird thing. Heupel sucks. Now, would we start trending down towards "good but not elite" at some point with some of those guys? Absolutely. But I don't think year 4-5 would be a fireball of disaster.

Not happy. Need at least 1 national championship. Miles did that following Saban and Alabama will be in much stronger shape than LSU at the time IMO.

I think the Alabama job would eat most of them alive. Avoiding the trap of trying to be Saban is going to be the biggest challenge that will face whoever follows him. The infrastructure will be there to succeed, but it'll need to be the right person. Particularly someone who is self-assured enough that copying Saban isn't even something that would cross his mind, much less be something he'd attempt to put into practice.

Eventually I agree. Wouldn't want to hire many of them.

Yep, which is why I'm glad Byrne is the one who will be knee deep in those evaluations. He's also proven to be pretty apt at not only hiring good coaches but hiring coaches who fit the need of the program. Oats and Bo are perfect examples of that.

I was okay with it until I realized one of those four losses at the bottom could be against Tennessee. Not sure i'm comfortable with that tbh.

If we lose to Tennessee, I’m not happy. I can be forgiving with the rest, but not Tennessee

Add in 1 natty and yes, I’m happy. See the thing is, Saban is likely going to leave the new guy with one of the most talented rosters in CFB. If the guy is worth his salt, he can take Saban’s guys and win one. (See Les Miles.)

I guess so many forget Shula-ball. It will definitely take a culture of success that adds to the talent that will be on the roster.

There are a ton of programs now that have talent. It’s only getting trickier with the portal (see the RB lately). It took a while for Saban to strike gold with QBs.

It will seriously be interesting to see what personality is found to contend with the factors of modern college football. The good news may be there are many dynamic coaches out there.

We may have to be open minded.

That really is unprecedented if you think too long about it. Like, they aren’t a Mississippi school or something. There is scenery.

Tennessee was starting to close the gap on the series record, then Alabama just nuked them

What a load of defeatist crap.
You people have lost your minds.

OSU didn't adjust their expectations after Urban. Why do we have to do so?

One thing I will say is that this place will be very entertaining when Saban retires
He is on an unprecedented run and any little detail the new coach does that is different or doesn’t measure up will have some on here losing their minds

OSU is basically performing at the level described in the first post.

They haven't won a national titles in 5 years.
