If Saban's successor has this run in his first 5 seasons, are you happy?

- 79% overall win (78% SEC win)
- 4 Top 10 Finishes
- 2 Top 5 Finishes
- 3 SEC West "Titles"
- 1 SEC Title
- 1 Playoff
- 0 National Titles
- 11-4 vs Auburn, LSU, Tennessee

Assuming it wasn't a great first year and slow drop off the next 4. Assume basically even success over the 5 years.

Happy or not happy?

I feel like this is another coaches record and you are setting us up. Maybe Malzon?

It really isn't a setup, but yes it is from another coach.

Not Malzahn - Malzahn had a 67% win, 63% SEC win and 1 Top 5 finish (2 Top 10).

He also was 4-7 against Alabama and Georgia over that stretch (6-10 vs Bama, Georgia, LSU)

Kurby?

But to answer your question, if there was a consistent decline each year i would not be happy. I would rather hope for a drop off in year 2, but by year 4 it is getting back on track. I would even expect year 2 and 3 to drop off some, but not after that.

Agree - that is why I added in that last part about it being an even 5 years, not a start hot with Saban's old stuff in place and then decline year by year.

I would riot on the streets of Tuscaloosa.

Or at least peacefully protest.

If the 2 SECCG Losses and Playoff loss aren’t blowouts then yes. We need to feel like a true contender and not the Notre Dame teams that made the playoffs

Agree - I think that's definitely a big part of it.

I think most will be understanding that we aren't going to win national titles every other year, in all likelihood, once Saban leaves. I do think the next guy has to be a legitimate Top 5-7 program that competes for them, though. And one whose teams, even when they don't win them, are competitive and just aren't quite good enough in the years they don't win them.

With what he will be left in terms of roster, infrastructure, etc.......that's a reasonable request, I think.

It just depends on the circumstances. If they're competitive in the playoff games, recruiting continues at a high level, and those 4 losses aren't to the same team (particularly the one in west Georgia) then yeah I'd be pretty content.

If they're backdooring into SECCGs only to get their teeth kicked in by whomever won the east and Aubie's taking those "fear the thumb" shirts out of mothballs then it's time for another brick through the window.

Agree with that. If we're a legitimate top 5 program that simply isn't as consistent in big games as we were under Saban I'd be frustrated with it but I'd also accept it. If we're winning by default (LSU and Auburn are a mess and Aggy continues underachieving most years) and getting our asses handed to us in Atlanta and/or the playoff ala Notre Dame or Oklahoma I'd be a lot less accepting of it.

If he leaves with an equal amount of talent on the roster as now, I’d expect something pretty damn close to a NC in the first 3 years.

Similar to what LSU did after Saban left.

That's what I keep going back to. And Saban is going to leave a better all around roster and better infastructure here than he did there.

Les literally rode that roster to 3 of his 4 best seasons (2011 being the outlier).

Les the first 3 seasons with the Saban Remnants
- 34-6 (19-5 SEC) (85% overall, 79% SEC)
- 3 of 3 Top 10 finishes
- 3 of 3 Top 5 finishes
- 1 National title out of 3 chances
- 1 SEC Title out of 3 chances
- 2 SEC West Titles out of 3 chances

Les the 9 seasons post-Saban Remnants
- 80-28 (43-23 SEC) (74% overall, 65% SEC)
- 2 out of 9 Top 10 Finishes
- 1 out of 9 Top 5 Finishes
- 0 National Title out of 9 chances
- 1 SEC Title out of 9 chances
- 1 SEC West Title out of 9 chances

Les averaged basically 2 additional losses a season once Saban's players and infrastructure went away.

Coach Bowlcut is having to carry all that weight from that 1980 thing with him and that is heavy. He is doing a really good job.

I've accepted that the first guy through the door is likely going to be cannon fodder. Possible Larry Coker situation.
