Once again I’m stating myself to death w such a slow week at work. However, Against the 4 top 25 defenses we faced this year (fsu, Lsu, Miss st and auburn) we are 14 for 50 on 3rd down and were 6 of 29 in last years playoff.
Not sure how you can wins games w that level of production on 3rd down.

Obviously, we've got to do better. There are a lot of people who have a lot more riding on this than us fans. You've got the best coach in the country working on it. Just relax and stay positive.

There are plenty of people that think Clemson's D line will eat our O line up. Barrett Jones doesn't like our chances. They will crowd the line of scrimmage and bring the pressure.

Look at Clemson's performances against good defenses: Boston College and Auburn. Clemson has played a weaker schedule than we have in my opinion. And, Bryant is NOT a good QB.

And we went 4-2 in those games.

Not saying that we don't need to improve on third downs-we clearly do. But, even with the offensive problems, we will still have a good chance to win. If we get them cleaned up, we will probably win the whole damn thing.

I don’t think any line can protect enough for Hurts. All of those games mentioned we had success whether marginal or not running the ball. 14 for 50 is a sobering number.

Clemson's defense is susceptible to a good running game and their pass defense isn't the best (albeit they have a high pass defense ranking). We are the best offense they have seen this year. NC State shredded them and Auburn wasn't nearly as good when they played them.

All of this and throw in the fact that Hurts is a slightly better passer and a much more dynamic runner and I think Bama has the advantage offensively. Ain't no superman running out of that tunnel for Clemson this year and they are only average to slightly above average running the ball.

And in those same games, our defense couldn't get off the field on 3rd downs either...3rd down has been bad for us on both sides of the ball against good teams...

We are a very good team with great players and the best coach of all time....that doesn’t mean we are a championship team.

Unfortunately, we don’t have that “juice” this year that championships teams are made of. Hopefully I am wrong and the AU game flipped on some switch and we will play this game with a sense of urgency & edge that we haven’t seen this year.

I don't see Clemson's offense as special in any way this season. They're not bad but the last two seasons they were special. I think our offense is better than their offense maybe except a few O-linemen. I'm looking at Clemson's game against BC right now. Don't sleep BC's defense was LEGIT and disciplined. They handled Clemson's offense. If we take care of the ball I don't see us losing.

Who is a "championship team" then? The team that lost to Iowa State, or Syracuse? Or the one that got beat much more badly than us by AU?

We've made it this far, whose to say we can't win two more games with a month's rest and prep?

What is this "juice" that you speak of?

Another thing about Bryant is he is susceptible to fumbling the ball when he's hit. And, as much as he runs he will definitely get hit. If we defend Clemson's stretch plays like BC did we should have success as well. Also, BC has a good DL too with Harold Landry being an elite prospect who is thought of as a top 10 prospect. I feel like our defense with healthy pass rushers will be able to heat Bryant up.

Championship teams get upset all the time. Sometimes that loss propels them from being a simply a great team to a championship team. Maybe that has happened to us after the AU loss. I just don’t think our whole is worth greater than the sum of our parts.

We could absolutely win it all and I hope I’m proven wrong. Would it shock anyone that Nick Saban and Alabama won two straight games against Top 3 teams? Not me.

The juice (IMO) would be players like Reubin and Jon Allen. We just cant put pressure on a QB or make the big plays on defense. Remember all those scoop and scores? We have good players all around though, so we always have a good shot at it.

And, BC's secondary is very good as well.

We can't - we will clearly have to be better.

Y'all will slam me but I'm fully preparing myself to lose.

Not because I don't think we can win but because thus far our offensive philosophy hasn't changed to do what our personnel can do.

We keep trying to force Hurts to be something he's not shown this far he's able to do and our defense gets beat up and tired trying to pick up the slack and eventually wears out.

This is not a slam on Hurts at all but more geared at the frustration of the staff not giving him a game plan suited to his skill set.

It’s real simple: stay out of 3rd and long. Runs and quick, short safe passes on 1st and 2nd down to stay ahead of the chains and stay in 3rd and 5 or less. If we see 3rd and 7 more than 3rd and 4, we’re in deep trouble.
