How much of a leash does DeBoer get this year?

How many games can he afford to lose or does it not matter this year? I’m sure the pressure is on to win this year.

I think DeBoer could go 5-7 and still be here next year. Especially if injuries were in play.
Since depth is such a luxury, you lose the right players at the wrong places and all the sudden you can't stop the run, protect the passer, complete passes, etc, etc, etc.
DeBoer probably only goes sub-.500 with injuries, so it would buy him some time.
Frankly, that may be losing a battle to win the war. People talk so much about how we don't have a billionaire but we do have many well off people who could part with sums of money that'd make the payroll situation materially different and not notice it. However, those folks aren't hungry like some of the SOBs who are dropping those sums of money. Maybe turd season would be the kick to the balls for our big booster class.
With all that said, I'd much prefer we just win baby.

DeBoer deserves a little better than y’all are giving him. I understand he’s not everybody’s type of coach, but different isn’t always wrong.

I don't know if I could say I like everything I see with his program. However, I think we're just entering into a period of his tenure where the roster is essentially in his image of a roster. Anyone leftover from Saban regime are guys who fit the scheme; anyone signed the last two seasons were identified by this staff.
This is an important season for DeBoer. I don't think he's necessarily got to lift a meaningful trophy this season. He's does need to put a product on the field that doesn't look like it is struggle bussing within games and through the course of the season. Each of the last two seasons, Alabama's performance trended worse than it started. We've seen maybe 3 complete games in the prior two seasons. Otherwise, even wins usually had these mid-game spells that let the opponents hang around instead of finishing the choke out. Additionally, several of the losses looked like we didn't even get off the bus and never responded to the challenge once the opponent punched them in the mouth.
If those tendencies can't change under the DeBoer regime, I do think his longterm success here is hard to imagine. Losing happens but how you lose is important to fans, boosters, and administrators. His teams have got to lose with honor, so to speak. Too often, they lose in embarrassment.

We beat all of our rivals, played in the SECCG and won a game in the CFP with 9 of 11 offensive starters injured or out.

Probably just responding to the criticism the media has of us and the puffing up of _________ (this week it is Kentucky.) Going to be a long season if this is true because it is en vogue to pile on us

Historically most BAMA coaches have done very well in their third seasons.
No reason we shouldn't be back in the playoffs this year.

Who is on the other end of that leash though? The average fan or the people tasked with cutting him a $60 million check to go away? I hear what you're saying in light of our fairly well documented road struggles under DeBoer, but that contract extension he signed has him fully insulated from anything besides maybe a Dubose 2000 historic meltdown this year and probably 2027 too.

It’d be cheaper for the big money to add more roster payroll than buying out a coach. Ohio State did that in 2024 because they were sick of Ryan Day not getting them over the hump.

I think he has to win at least as many games as last year. If he wins less, his coaching seat will be warm, maybe even hot. Barring him doing something crazy like selling crack out of his office, he’ll be back next year.
Now, next year, the pressure is on. We return almost all of the offense with an entire season’s worth of experience. Zero reason for next year’s offense not to rack up huge yards/touchdowns. If Bama isn’t winning big in 2027, IMO, CKD’s seat will be Chernobyl radioactive hot in 2028.
Bottom line, he’ll be there minimum thru 2027.
Footnote, IMO, Bama is going to have to pony up big $$$ in the portal for an elite edge rusher. Pierre will be gone and there’s no one who looks the part to take over his role in 2027.

Kirby Smart? That’s a pipe dream.
Dan Lanning? Another pipe dream.
Sark? Not happening and I have reservations about him.
Ryan Day? Never happening.
Anyone think we could pull any of those guys are kidding themselves.
Fact is, we’d be left with diamonds in the rough (e.g. Charles Huff at Memphis) or young guy who’s promising like Kenny Dillingham at Arizona State, or a guy who’s a bit tarnished but a good coach like Pat Fitzgerald at Michigan State.
Fact is, we’re not having to face this issue for another two years, or longer but IF we do, we’re most likely faced with less than inspiring choices. That’s just reality. So, all you guys who want to shite can CKD, you need to be careful what you wish for.

I’m probably going to get called every name in the book and downvoted but find a way to steal Curt Cignetti. Even if we got just 6-8 years from him, imagine the results.
Only other coach I’d really, really want would be Kirby Smart since he was a key piece during some of the national title seasons at Bama and coaches that brand of ball. Also a pipe dream though
