Again why is that something crazy to say?

Blows my mind that anytime someone points out an area that could be improved on other posters can't wait to tell you why you're stupid for being concerned and pretend that all is well as long as we win.

The players and coaches know they didn't play well. McKinney was frustrated in his interview today. My hope is that the team uses the bye week to get healthy and correct the errors to the best of their ability before A&M.

Rushing defense really has me worried. I’ve done got spoiled on teams hitting a stone wall when they tried to run it up the middle on us. Now they are getting push and 3-4 yards easily

It was the worst rush defense performance since Auburn in 2013. The whole unit got pushed around. It's not acceptable.

That could be our downfall: instead of getting into a shootout which gives Bama a good chance to win, grind it out on the ground up the middle of the D. Get those 3-4 yards per carry and the occasional short pass and keep the chains moving, the clock rolling, and Tua and the Four Horsemen on the sidelines. Try to squeeze out a 27-24 win.

We are terrible. The LB’s are horrific. Our DL is weak.

Typically he’s one of the people I talk to after the game, he basically said what’s up, and headed to the bus, Surtain, Lee, all seemed that way. Definitely a chip and disappointed.

Btw and side note Womack looks like a 49 year old recently released convict for sexual crimes lol. Shaved head, massive stash and constantly laughing lol.

I’m also a little disappointed in Lewis and Jennings. I honestly thought one of them would step up and be that dominant pass rusher we needed and they just haven’t.(Lewis obviously is banged up right now). Anoma could have been that guy if he wasn’t a quitter

You never answered my question tho. What is going to happen when we simplify it for the tougher matchups later in the year?

We either execute on the simplified scheme or we get toasted. I'm not sure what you are trying to get me to answer? Pruitt simplified his scheme for 17 and it paid off for the defense and a natty, there is nothing wrong with playing simplified against top teams if it means you can execute it. Our defense doesn't need to be holding teams to 10-13 points, as long as they held teams to 20-24 the offense can win every game left.

I'm not sure where I said there is nothing to worry about, I do think that as always with every game, we as a fanbase relish the chance to blow up something normal, as you are saying improving over time, into a multi-thread call for jobs and mindless frustration that we aren't in 2011 anymore with a steadfast refusal to acknowledge the severe losses the defense has suffered.

Jennings

Has been one of our only sources of pressure so far, his stats are not great but before this game were team leading. I hope Lewis gets healthy (knock on wood) because jennings body type just isn't the rabbit pass rusher mold.

Outsider looking in. Get their best shot and move on. Week by week. Just win and you’re in. I watched Clemson for the most part today. They’re not the same. Hardest game to me is Auburn at this point. LSU hasn’t shown any defense. Starters are missing but still.

Yeah, I wish it were only 3-4 yards.

R. Davis is just another guy. He's as big of a waste of talent as has passed through here. 15 months ago I thought he was going to be a 1st round lock. If I was an NFL GM, I wouldn't touch him before the 5th.

But some of this defensive malaise has to be placed at the foot of the change in offensive philosophy. All of y'all clamoring for a "modern, wide-open" philosophy can't complain now. Iron sharpens iron. When you don't face a physical, drive-blocking run game every day in practice you lose the ability to be physical when it counts. Look at our tackling. Does anyone here think our tackling is comparable to 5 years ago? 10?

Face it, we have become what we used to laugh at and loathe: finesse teams that can be pushed around at the line of scrimmage. And we know what happens to those kind of teams in the big games.

I’m talking about on plays we defend well they still get 3 or 4 yards. Where as it use to be at most a 1yd gain

The defense has no fire in it's belly. McKinney and Jennings are the only true leaders right now. I miss the days of 2015-16 when that unit went out on the field with bad intentions.
That isn’t how it works.

It’s easy to bust heads when you can count on everyone around you to play fast af and be in the right spot.

Idk if the freshman aren’t consistent(it seems like it). And idk if the coaching is shite. But there isn’t much pressure on the QB from the DL and it’s hit or miss whether running lanes are getting plugged.

That allows teams to run exactly the offenses they want and that’s hard as hell to stop in today’s game.

This defense is terrible compared to 2011 but this defense isn’t facing stubborn offenses that are unimaginative.

Again that isn’t how this works.

How many times has Alabama faced a defense in the past and been able to completely neutralize a dominant pass rusher?

They used to do it ALL the time. They’d do it against LSU. They did it that one year that Georgia had that ridiculous kid(6 or so years ago I think).

Alabama isn’t immediately establishing the edge on run plays or getting much push up the middle. And they aren’t in the right spots to stop run plays with LBers.

Things aren’t set up for a pass rusher to frick up a team’s game plan.

Our pass rush is miserable. What do we have like 3 or 4 sacks on the year? And we aren’t good at stopping the run. When you can do neither how in the world is the secondary supposed to perform well?

I’m slightly ok with how I think Alabama matches up with LSU.

I’m hoping for a shootout that Alabama can come out on top of.

But Auburn running whenever and however they want scares the shite out of me.

Our middle linebackers are not good. Didn’t we know this coming into the season? That’s what you get with TRUE FRESHMEN in the middle of a Saban defense. Hopefully they start playing faster, but right now offenses are gashing us with the run because the LBs aren’t coming up and pounding the point of attack, and crashing lanes with brute force.

The most concerning thing to me is that idk if 35 is even a good athlete. He looks slow out there, and gets juked pretty easily. He’s starting primarily because he has the best grasp on the defense mentally, but he’s still not fully confident.
We need Dylan Moses in the worst way, because in the front 7 what we’re really missing is athleticism. We don’t have any freaks. Not a single one (maybe Terrell Lewis? maybe Barmore?). That’s bad recruiting. Do we have a single future 1st rounder in the front 7 right now? If not, that’s pretty astonishing for a Saban front.

I feel like the defensive line has the potential to get better. The LBs will get marginally better (I think we’re lacking talent in addition to experience). Hopefully McKinney will teach Mayden how to tackle.

The bright spot on defense is Diggs and Surtain. Thank God for those two.

Honestly though, beyond this season, and beyond our LB attrition, what the hell is going on with our defense? It seems like ever since Pete Golding came to town, we’ve looked soft as a baby’s arse. No attitude. Correlation doesn’t always equal causation, but it makes you wonder..

O

Bama hasn’t faced a good offense this season.
