Hmmm. That's too bad. The good news is we certainly don't need him to contribute this year.

balls. he was pretty much our only de from last class. we need to take several good ones this year (should be set at DT for a while)

Cornwell being unable to hit our WRs in stride last night is concerning.

For starters ESPN will be the last place I look for information, at least any with credibility. Their main goal is to drum hits to their sites and visits to their channels. I bet Joe Schad is already somewhere in the deep south to scope the next big scandal for his network. ESPN reported back in the spring how he was becoming a leader(IIRC) in the locker room. But they have also reported a few weeks ago that Cornwell has a chance to beat out Coker.
In Jan a poll was taken on here and many believed it was Coker followed by Bateman. That was short lived for Bateman as we saw in spring practice. Over a year ago many on hear was handing the keys over to Coker before he even set foot on the practice field. Even when both Bateman and Cornwell committed many posters were claiming they were the future. Now once again everyone is jumped for the new kid in the block.
In the end Barnett may be the guy. But everything out there right now is predictions based on speculation and nothing more.

@BW_Jones: Nick Saban says ArDarius Stewart has been the most consistent WR in practice. "He's the next guy we need to sort of be the man."
@AaronSuttles: Saban: We want more players to play like Jonathan Allen, who plays with tremendous discipline.
@AaronSuttles: Saban: Minkah Fitzpatrick has done a really really good job. He's a guy that could make a contribution this year. Ronnie Harrison too.
@AaronSuttles: Saban on Ridley having potential to be elite: Calvin Ridley has a lot of ability, but he hasn't even played a game yet.
@AaronSuttles: Saban: We have given all QBs a chance. We have to make a determination before the scrimmage about how many reps each player gets.

AJ could never hit receivers in stride. Blake Sims was the first QB we've had that could do that in recent memory and he was hated on by you guys early on all last season.

Watched Coker make several nice throws, then several poor throws #inconsistent
Looks comfortable at times

I assume you're talking about deep balls. No one was more accurate on short and intermediate passes than AJ.
Cornwell and Coker struggled hitting receivers in stride on short and intermediate routes on fan day. Cornwell in particular was behind receivers on crossing routes.

Do y'all not remember Coker last year? He can't even hit a WR screen. He throws it 100 mph 8 feet over their head. His deep balls are late because he makes decisions 3 seconds too late. IMO, Coker is a horrible quarterback. He lacks everything it takes to be a good QB besides a good arm. He has zero QB intangibles, and zero feel for the game.

I think it's less worrisome to be late or off a touch on short to intermediate throws. Those routes and completions can come with timing and being more familiar with the wr. At the end of the day, I don't care who starts. I was so wrong about Blake last year that I realized my uninformed preseason prediction means nothing. Who I think should play means about as much as who I think should be president. I have faith in the guys who get paid millions to make the right decision. They have so far.

I predicted Blake would cost us two games.
While there's a lot that goes into losing (and winning) football games, Blake was directly related to two of the most defining moments in our losses last season.
He did well in games at home, but for the life of him he struggled (tremendously sometimes) on the road. I'm still torn at how much of last years success was him, and how much was Amari and Kiffin's ingenuity.
I do remember he had a terrible spring (much worse than Coker's really), a below-average fall and yet still managed to put together a decent season for us (by our standards...and along with help).
I'm not panicked about Coker not being heads and shoulders above the competition (5 star QBs, and save one, guys that have been there longer than him) anymore than we should've been worried about a 5th year senior barely fending off a transfer in his first camp with us.
Basically, it should all work out.

Along with a SEC Championship. Blake Sims had an excellent season and was a wonderful representative for the Program and University.

To be fair. UA has never been known to light up Ds with the passing game.
that's not a knock on Sims. I love Blake. He was everything you want in an athlete. A guy who paid his dues and reaped the bennifit of his hard work. Couldn't ask for a better guy to represent the Crimson Tide.
