To be fair, he’s probably called more games than you’ve had bowel movements

Eli needs to go, plain and simple. For the people saying he gets to decide when it’s time, what would make you change your mind?

That guy has been through hell. Maybe he is still coming back. Give it a little time.

I don’t think anything can change their mind. It’s like the people 10 years ago that would get angry when you said Coleman Coliseum should be replaced or that still think Basketcase is a great way to start the 4th Quarter. It’s just all they know.

Eli has always been pretty dry, it’s just gotten more pronounced after his bout with cancer.

I mean that was one of the loudest, most exciting single moments in BDS in memory, and his call was just ho-hum matter of fact. Unbiased national commentators give more energy than that. I appreciate Eli but honestly he just doesn't seem able to keep up or capture the moment anymore.

Exactly. Just like 2nd & 26 where he rolled out some canned line that was more fitting if we had taken a knee to end the game.

What makes it worse is that they’ll use his commentary on highlight videos and that’s when it really drags everything down.

He’s a Bama legend deserves to go out when he’s ready. Respect it. Stewart understands that as well.

If he lacks the cognitive ability to understand that he can no longer perform his job at a high level (or any level at all really), then no, he does not deserve to go out on his own terms.

Give him a permanent seat in the booth. Set up an exhibit at the Bryant Museum. Do whatever, but Alabama football is one of the biggest brands in sports and deserves a competent broadcaster.

Sean McDonough call of 2nd and 26 is my go to, and one of my all time favorite calls.

That's a good one, but my favorite is the UGA radio broadcast. They are laughing at Tua's last name and then boom, the game is over.

"We're just gonna call him tongue tied...

He's got a man wide open ohmygod touchdown"

I’ve never been an Eli fan. He was loads better to me that Paul Kennedy, but I loved John Forney. He and Doug Layton were Homer’s and got excited as the fans did. Eli’s calls on big plays were always too unemotional for me. He also didn’t give down and distance accurately (could have been his spotter) or the score nearly enough.

That made no sense whatsoever.

And thank God they stopped playing Basketcase. They only played it for about a decade past time to retire it. I came to despise that song lol.

I've never understood the whole someone should be allowed to quit when they want to.

It doesn't matter what one did in the past, the only thing that matters is the present. If one doesn't have it anymore, it's time to go home. That includes Saban too, who clearly still has it.

I read where BDS hit a record decibel level on that play.

So was John Forney. He also had some health problems, but that didn’t stop Ray Perkins from coordinating his firing in his effort to remove all things “Bear”, just like the coaching tower. Forney was first the color analyst and then play by play. Worked games from 1952-1982. After Perkins left and later, Paul Kennedy left, Forney came back for 1 year then Eli replaced him. Doug Layton and John Forney together will never be beaten IMO.

It's so sad.

In his prime, Eli Gold made me ready to run through a wall for the next play.

George Teague's Miami interception is one of my favorites. You could hear in his voice he stood up in the booth!
