Compare Lane to Grubb.
Take all of Lane's non-football shenanigans aside.
One of the things that has made Lane such a consistently great offensive designer and playcaller over two decades now, throughout radical changes in offensive and defensive trends in football, has been his willingness to change.
Lane has run vastly different offenses year to year. He changes the offense to fit the players on his roster that year, and to exploit the defenses he's seeing on a week to week basis. He doesn't try to fit a round peg in a square hole. Look at what he asked Leinart and Bush to do, versus Sims and Amari, versus Coker and Henry, versus Hurts, and then Dart and Chambliss. Every time it was something very different, fit to personnel and the defense of the time.
He's never forcing a round peg into a square hole.
With Grubb I see the complete opposite. I see a guy that loves the look of a play on the white board, and is excited to run it. Personnel, defense, down and distance be damned. This is a good play, I designed it, it's brilliant, it has 4 different motions, it will work.
The reality is it doesn't work. RPO is great. Our QB doesn't read RPO well. Why are we still calling RPOs? Because our OC thinks its a good play - but only in theory, not in execution. If the peg doesn't fit the hole he doesn't care, it's his peg, he's going with it.
Bobo gets maligned a lot by UGA fans and foes alike for the offense he runs. But I'll give him credit, he keeps it simple for a reason. He may not fool the opponent with ingenious play design and a mile long call sheet. But he's going to call something that his players can line up and run successfully at a high clip, designed to keep them in positive down and distance. There's something to be said about that. I wish our OC would learn from that.
But given that Grubb has been running the exact same stuff now for ~5 straight seasons, across wildly different personnel and opponent contexts, I don't expect much change.
The change has to come from CKD. He has to give his friend walking papers. That's tough. Hopefully our head coach is tough. If he's not, how could we expect our team to be.

The only place I would disagree with you a bit is that I think Keelon’s future is as a RPO quarterback.
But he’s struggling at it now because he’s inexperienced yet Grubb is calling games like he’s expecting him to execute RPO like a fifth-year senior. There was no attempt to ease him into it, to add things step by step instead of hurling the whole package at him.

Either Grubb goes or DeBoer will ultimately go (in-depth)
And let's be honest...if Grubb doesn't go, DeBoer isn't the only one who goes.
There's no way in hell I'm letting Greg Byrne hire another football coach.
Supervision of the football program is his top priority. If the football program is in the shitter, the money faucet gets turned off. Donor stop donating.

I really believe this stage is too big for DeBoer. He doesn’t have the bruiser mentality needed to win in this conference.

Why not? It’s seems like our OC is using ChatGPT to call plays.

That's what happens when you hire a hc from a team that finished runner up in NC. Any hc will cost money.

Most of the assistant contracts ends in Feb.

Is it true when the extensions were given out, Grubb was one of the few coaches who didn't get one? I've read this several places on the internet but haven't confirmed it anywhere else.

Totally agree. However, he's not good at it right now.
He has to get better. But the time and place for him to develop his RPO skills it is not 4PM in max capacity Neyland Stadium. Yet, Grubb puts him in that situation.

Mmmmm - in my estimation - the 4th down defense is a bit skewed by how many yards to go for a first. Unless it is us on Offense, most teams can get a yard running up the gut

Pass defense: This clearly needs to improve. Something needs to be figured out with 5. He’s a weak link.
4th down defense: I don’t care that much about this. What are the distances? This seems very reliant on a few variables that can swing the stats.
Tackles for loss allowed: We thinking this is partly scheme and Keelon(or SOMEONE) not accounting for free edge rushers?
Sacks: Might go hand in hand with the above? No excuses. It must get better. But it’s not shocking with a young QB.
Red zone defense: Are these TDs or FG? Certainly that matters, no?

Looking at the entire staff, how many would you retain.
His staff is not impressive.
Then again, the problem is in Kalen's office.

See, now right there he is either just talking to save face, or he's just a moron. And I don't think he's a moron...but the jury is still out on that.
To say there was a fine line between the Georgia and Tennessee games indicates a football IQ of less than zero. We looked decently coached and relatively tough against Georgia. We looked thoroughly uncoached, weak, and soft against Tennessee. Alabama's performances in those two games weren't even remotely similar.

Those scoring averages are misleading at this point in the season, since they are heavily boosted by points vs early season cupcakes, Everyone knows UT is not a 40 pt offense. They played Furman, GT, and Kennesaw State. Vs the SEC UT is averaging 21.7 ppg. Alabama gave up more points vs UT than any of the 3 previous SEC games, including Ark. But that is mitigated by the fact that the offense put the D in some difficult situations. OTOH, they did not get the ball back in the 2nd half when Alabama needed it, but UT drove it down their throat.
Other teams’ offenses didn’t do much vs UT’s D either and some probably gave UT points too. UTn has a top D and along with UTx, OU and maybe UGA, are in a strata above the rest of the SEC.

I'd like to see that data vs SEC teams only. That 4-2-5 with really only 3 or sometimes 2 true DT's isn't going to stop a good running team.
We had a top 3 adjusted defense against the run before Green went down and they admitted even before he left he was already hurt and wasn’t playing to previous standards.
Right now without Hill/Des/Green we aren’t good enough up front to stone these teams and we lack the cover skills to commit additional players to the box.
We will be hanging on by our fingernails until Green and Zabien back defensively.

I’ve said before a Richt-type follow-up to Saban would be fantastic. Got to remember he had a few great teams that may have made a title run in the playoff era.
Right now, I would not say Richt is the trajectory. Richt already had a 13-1 SEC champ by this point in his tenure in Athens.

Richt coached in the east which for years was overall much weaker than the west, and rarely played BAMA.
The Blackout Game was the beginning of the end for him.
