Either Grubb goes or DeBoer will ultimately go (in-depth)

There is a lot of talent on this roster. Especially the younger players.
Say what you want about CKW, but allowing 20ppg (19.1 since 2024) and just like this year, tops in the nation in forcing turnovers.
The Special Teams are really good. K and P have been tremendous improvements.
The talent on offense is 100% there. You could give some very good offensive high school coaches who could muster 21 points in a game with Bama’s players on offense.
DeBoer ran a different style offense when he was an OC (Big10’s leading rusher while at Indiana).
He showed he was willing to adapt (Milroe attempted 19 pass attempts per games with 15 designed QB runs) which is completely different than what Grubb does.
I believe DeBoer IS open to a different offense than what Grubb does.
Every part of the program is run pretty efficiently: evals, roster, retention, defense (I know they aren’t 2016 good but they are 23-1 when the offense has scored 21+ points and they dragged year), and their best players are in their 1st or 2nd season.
IF he gets rid of Grubb then I believe he would be a very solid coach who wins 10 games on a perennial basis.
On the flip side, if he does extend Grubb, then that will lead to his firing after next season.
Look at what happened with the Seahawks the very next year after canning Grubb:
Macdonald said he sat down FACE TO FACE on THREE occasions to the point of giving Grubb an ultimatum to run their elite RB 25 times a game and he said that Grubb never changed even slightly, and after their 2nd meeting he made up his mind he was firing him the day after the season ended.
IF DeBoer doesn’t bring him back, bc my hope is the fact that Grubb’s contract IS up after this year, then he will do well and be here a long time.
It’s that simple imo.

I'd like to see that data vs SEC teams only. That 4-2-5 with really only 3 or sometimes 2 true DT's isn't going to stop a good running team.

No pressure on DeBoer to do anything. Lose every game and he still gets his millions so he doesn't really gaf.
The ridiculous pay system for coaches was the beginning of the end of college football...it was the first domino that fell. The Jimmy Sextons leveraged Saban's success into one sided, ridiculous contracts starting around 2000. Coaching salaries skyrocketing only fueled the "poor player" narrative...and now here we are.
Can we just use AI to call plays? Seriously.

I think the 2024 Vanderbilt game is the only game we lost because of defense but even so, we surrendered 14 points off turnovers (pick six on one).
Every other game we lost because the offense could not stay on the field and/or convert yards into points.
Other than Indiana in the Rose Bowl and UGA in SECCG, we probably win every loss with just modest offensive production. The UGA SECCG is probably a nail-biter with an average offensive output.
Our problems are on offense when we hired a coach known for his offense. This would be like in 2009 if Alabama was struggling to win because the defense couldn't get stops with a defensive-minded head coach.

Hell I would almost favor giving AI a chance …

In reality the landscape of college football has changed so much, so quickly coaches really have to be a lot of things. It’s not just coaching now, it’s counseling, playing politics, money, etc.

We got owned on TOP yesterday. Goes both ways, but you can't let a team run off 10 min in one drive.

Since 2024:
- 21. 6 ppg in SEC play. Ranks #3 overall.
328ypgg in SEC play (#2 last year, #3 since 2024).
- 6 more turnovers IN SEC PLAY than any other team (OU is 2nd).
- No SEC team has scored 30 points in a game vs Wommack since the Vandy game in 2024,, when he changed his defense to a 3-4 Under as their base and scrapped the 4-2-5.
- Less yards and points and FAR more turnovers in SEC play than Georgia since 2024
That is the definition of CONSISTENCY.
I’ll put it this way:
Name ONE game in the SEC that the defense was responsible for losing after he changed to a 3-4 Under week 5 of 2024 after the Vandy loss?
Side Note:
And that’s with having a COMPLETELY inept/abomination of an offense than cannot sustain drives and take ANY time of the clock and constantly put them in terrible field position.

Let me break it down further. frick DeBoer for his lazy arse approach.

They don’t run a 4-2-5, and haven’t since the Vandy game of 2024.
That’s why they got rid of all the undersized DL guys and brought in 330lbs like T Green, B jones and D Thompkins.

SI story looking back at Grubb’s tenure in Seattle and his firing.
Very illuminating. It shows this guy is never going to change. Every move Deboer made in the off-season was to get him a more effective run game & he just refuses to do it & he never will.
That Giants game sounded so indicative of where we are at right now - calls 12 straight passes for Geno Smith - 47 total pass attempts - gets him sacked 7 times - 3 called run plays for Kenneth Walker.

Yes, the offense did give up 14 of those points vs Vandy.
They are always putting the D in awful situations or directly giving up points (like the 3 FGs yesterday in the 1st qtr that could’ve led to a 21-0 or 17-0 game in the first 10 minutes). They always have to defend a ton of possessions bc of the offense (14 possessions for UT yesterday is insane).
BUT, I’m glad in his 2nd ever SEC game (2 and 1/2 years ago), was the DIRECT cause for Wommack ditching the 4-2-5 and going to a bigger 2-gap 3-4 Under Front.
Yes, they will line up with 4 DL in Nickel just like Coach Saban did, but their personnel is ENTIRELY a 3-4 (Odd) Front, which is exactly what Saban did too up until Golding.
That SHOCKED me that Wommack was willing to not only change, but do it after just 5 games into his tenure after finally getting his shot to coach at a program like Alabama.
Most coaches would’ve doubled down on what got them the job in the first place, and stayed with a 4-2-5.
That’s the difference. Wommack saw QUICKLY that it wasn’t working after just 2 SEC games and literally scrapped what he had done (and his father did for 20+ years) his entire career and overhauled the defense.
That was when I said, okay, this guy can do the job.
They went on to finish 9th in the nation in Scoring D that year, and turned around and was 10th in Total D.
It’s gotten to the point where fans want him fired if Georgia and Tennessee score TDs against them in the same game, and that’s with the defense setting up the offense for 10 points vs UGA (would r been more if the QB Reese INT wasn’t robbed), and then gave the offense a FG and another possession that started inside the UT 25 yd line yesterday

#2 in turnovers forced,
Allowing 20ppg
Defending THE MOST possessions per game than any other SEC program.
I don’t care about cherry-picking stats like a 4th and 1 conversion.
UT and Georgia got 23 points averaging the 2 games together and the offense was DIRECTLY responsible for 16 of them.
Cite ANYTHING you want but the defense’s job is to prevent the opponent from scoring and to force turnovers.
And again we are sitting here talking about the defense when they allowed an average of 23 points between the Georgia and UT games the past 2 weeks while 16 of the points were on the offense.
Bama won 5 games in their 2015 National Title season while allowing 30+ points 4 times, including 43 in another, and the offense showed up and won 3 out of those 4 games.
When has the offense won an SEC game for Bama? EVER under CKD?
Again, I’ll ask the question:
Out of the last 21 SEC games, name ONE that the defense was responsible for losing?

I agree with you 100%. I'm not looking to get rid of DeBoer, I still think he can be successful here. And while I don't think anyone is going to mistake Wommack for the best DC in the country, his side of the ball is good enough that we can win with it. But Grubb's ratchet arse has got to go. Any idiot should be able to realize, "Hmmm, intimidating environment, young QB coming off a subpar performance, opposing defense has a strong pas rush - maybe I should focus on establishing the run in this one, and help my QB out with some screens or quick, easy passes to ease him into the game." Apparently Grubb is not "any idiot," though.

If KDB goes the talent will literally be bought from under us.

“#125 in redzone defense”
Yeah that’s not misleading at all….they are including FG’s, not just TDs.
Again, name ONE loss (in an SEC game not vs rent-a-win opponents) that the defense has been responsible for?
The answer is ZERO.
They are 23-1 when scoring 21+ points.
What else is there to say?
