If we drop Williams as a corner, wouldn't we want to replace him with another corner? Isn't Battle a pure safety? Just trying to make sense of our DB recruiting. Not that I'm complaining, they're all elite players.

Word is Battle can play both corner and safety. I think he's faster than Williams too.

Don't go there. Webb did what was best for him and he did it with class. We'll be fine on the OL without him.

Honestly the PR aspect isnt really that bad or maybe i just dont care. A week after Jalen took a shite on them no way you can really swing anything in your favor. Not to mention the two flips we just had. Also hopefully getting Battle soon. Honestly the fact that he didnt want to play center probably turned everyone off.

I don't think Nick was interested in this guy at all except as a center.

Wish we would.

Not just a recruiter, I think he is the best in the country. Bunch of maulers in the run game.

I think we have a pretty damn good OL coach in Brent Key.

PR? No, UGA allegedly won a recruiting battle for Webb in the eyes of some of their insecure fans. And, if Bama loses 3 in-state 5 stars I'm confident Coach Saban found guys who are just as good or are better fits or are more of a need.

Probably only take 4 DB. If Battle or Gates commits. Look for 2 of Williams, Turnage and Hellams to decommit.

I will take Hill, Carter, Battle and Turnage.

Bama loaded up at CB last year, need some safeties in this class.

I might be in the minority here, but I think we were a distant third for Webb. I believe it was UGA, Clemson and then Bama. I think he's known for awhile where he was going to commit. I wish him the best. I think he's going to be a very good player for the Dawgs especially if they can get him at center.

I thought it was his dad who liked Bama?

Maybe Saban is expecting some attrition in our secondary? Possibly some players transferring? I have no clue but we know that Saban is always playing chess.

I doubt Keaton Anderson will return for a 5th year and I think Knott is a prime transfer candidate.

Well, we are almost positive that Ben Davis will transfer and we have all speculated on Wright. We've tried to decode his tweets It's possible that Knott could transfer too

I think Saban was tired of having to put wide receivers at DB so they'd have guys in case of emergency.

In all seriousness, we play with six of those guys a lot of the time, and aside from Surtain, everyone else that plays back there will probably be gone after next season.

Keaton was honored at Senior Day because he already announced he's not coming back for a 5th year, so that's one for sure.

We are absolutely going to take some losses in this DB group over the next year. At a minimum we will see at least one or two tried on offense in the spring and with this group someone is going to be an odd man out and may transfer. A large class this year of talented Db's gives the staff a lot more flexibility.

Recent quotes and twitter posts from Hellman’s and Turnage don’t seem to indicate this from them. I know Saban has gone to Lafayette Co. School and in home with Turnage last week so that leads me to believe he is a priority . The one I am concerned about is Williams. It is just strangely quiet in regards to his recruiting. Not sure what the staff likes/dislikes about him, haven’t heard of an in home or anything . If all things being equal I would like to take an in state kid. Might need those relationships when Saban is gone

Yeah, you really can't sign enough DBs these days. We have 5 or 6 on the field basically all the time unless it's a short yardage situation.

Are you really that high on Key? I don't care one way or another about Webb. Our OL recruiting has been (on paper) ridiculous in the last few years (and will continue to be). I'm not saying he's a terrible OL coach, but I've been quite disappointed with our development on the interior OL. Okay, Brown is a monster. But it seems like we've lacked in development at the OG position for a few years now. Cotton never developed much. Leatherwood is terrible right now. RossP is one of the most overrated players in the country, IMO (excellent leader.. don't get me wrong.. and fairly steady as a pass blocker, but just doesn't get any movement in the running game).

OT-wise, we have two of the best in recent years. Both are not just 1st round talents, but top 10 overall talents. So you can't say he's done a bad job with them. But it befuddles me with the way we've recruited how we continue to "struggle" (it's all relative, I guess) in the interior of the OL.

My overall current assessment of Key is... meh. Not bad, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if he had a change there. IMO, the best OL coach in the country went to the NFL this offseason. Harry Hiestand (was the Notre Dame OL coach). Wish we could get him to come back to college if we ever made a change.

Generally with interior linemen you can have athletes or you can have people movers. We tend to go more for the athletes because we like to run a lot of stretch plays and have our guards pull. The downside to this is that they can get whipped by bigger DTs. I also completely disagree with the "5 best" philosophy. Just play guys where they are at their best. Leatherwood may be one of our 5 best linemen, but he isn't a guard and he never will be a guard. He's an OT. If our 6th best lineman is a natural guard, he should be starting over Leatherwood.

I think Key is a very good OL coach. But from a scheme standpoint we aren't asking our OL to maul people like we did pre-Kiffin. It's just a different mindset and approach, which sometimes makes them seem less dominant as a group. JMO.

Watching Drake score that TD yesterday was awesome. It got me to thinking about versatile RBs. We had Drake and Jacobs the last several years who were both so dynamic and multi-skilled.

Who is the "next" Kenyan Drake or Josh Jacobs? Do we have anyone like that on the roster? Anyone out there in recruiting that stands out in that respect?
