Nick Saban telling reporters to not scare off our other recruits.

More Alabama signed 22 prospects today, but Nick Saban warns reporters, "Don't do your calculations and scare off everyone else we're recruiting in February. We do have spots left."

i'm wondering if there was ever any chance hill's parents would sign for him to come to bama.

What I read earlier today regarding Hill was when he decommitted rumors were swirling about CJH headed to the NFL. He really likes him and wants to play for him and UM. But when the rumors were out there that is when he decommitted. So once that was cleared away UM was once again the front runner.

Reverse CUJO? he committed to the Barn and then withheld his NLI until his parents quit then committed to the good guys and faxed it to the Fax Chick leaving the Barn up shitte creek looking for a fertilizer spreader

There were a lot of things that stunk about that whole ordeal. From Cyrus’ one visit to AU to his coach at DeMatha.

just really hard, and I don't blame them. It's impressive that kids like Dean want to try it at least.

Dean isn't like most football players. He's a serious student and a very high IQ kid. I'll be really surprised if he doesn't pursue a serious course of study.

My favorite part of CUJO's recruitment is when the Barn had his favorite reality TV star Natalie Nunn come to town to perform .

Commitment analysis: Battle flips to Bama

quote:

THE SITUATION

Jordan Battle has spent a good chunk of 2018 committed to Ohio State. He pledged his services the Buckeyes back in June and played his senior season as a solidly committed prospect. That all changed when the Early Signing Period began, however, as the four-star defensive back has chosen to sign with Alabama.

Battle’s commitment flip comes not long after longtime Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer announced his decision to retire for medical reasons, although the safety’s change of heart is likely for multiple reasons. Either way, nobody in Tuscaloosa will do much complaining about the reasons behind the decision.

quote:

HOW IT HELPS ALABAMA

Alabama gets a long, versatile athlete in Battle, a leader of one of the country’s top high school defenses. The four-star defensive back is a nice blend of length and speed and seems to fit in well with what Alabama likes in its secondary. The fact that he hails from the perennially talent-rich football factory that is Ft. Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas High School is an added bonus, as success recruiting the program tends to compound. There are worse places to build pipelines. Still, Battle, even on his own, is quite a prize. He’ll need to add weight, but should do so quickly considering his frame.

quote:

HOW IT HURTS OHIO STATE

Nobody likes to lose a commit late in the process, but the Buckeyes class isn’t exactly hurting for talent. That said, Ryan Day and his staff had to have known this was a possibility, as rumors have been swirling for weeks. No coaching change in the history of the sport has ever been without a wrinkle, so even the smooth transition at Ohio State was likely to create a bump or two two. Battle’s commitment , it seems, was simply one of those bumps.

I wouldn’t question his ability to obtain an engineering degree, but time management will be key when playing at a major college program. Any engineering discipline is extremely time consuming. And you can’t easily stack classes in spring and summer.

Commitment analysis: Trey Sanders to Alabama

quote:

THE SITUATION

Five-star running back Trey Sanders, the No. 2 overall player in the 2019 class, has chosen Alabama over a long list of major national offers. The touted prospect’s recruitment took a late twist, however, as a late-December trip to Georgia seemed to change everything. Still the Tide fought until the final moments and have now won an important recruiting battle against an SEC rival.

quote:

WHY ITS BIG FOR ALABAMA

The way this unfolded flexes Alabama's recruiting muscle In impressive fashion. Not only did the Tide go head-to-head with red-hot Georgia and win, they did so despite not getting the final visit.

We didn't need more proof that Nick Saban is tough to best on both the field and the recruiting trail, but we got it anyway. Sanders’ commitment to the Tide is his second, as the five-star tailback committed to Alabama early in his high school career before backing away from that pledge months ago. No harm no foul on that front.

In Sanders, the Tide has landed the undisputed top running back in the 2019 class – a rare blend of size and speed that seemingly never has an off game. The IMG Academy star entered his senior season with a dump truck full of hype and somehow lived up to it. The hard-running tailback is a load to bring down and has the type of breakaway speed that will serve him well in the SEC. It’s hard to imagine a scenario in which Sanders doesn’t see some playing time as a true freshman.

quote:

SCHOOLS IT HURTS THE MOST

Missing out on Sanders won’t tank UGA's top-five class. Smart and the Bulldogs have proven capable of standing to-to-toe with Alabama over the last two years and the allure of Georgia is seemingly becoming more powerful with each passing month, so a Bama victory here is massive for perception.

Losing Sanders at such a late stage will send UGA scrambling for a replacement to some extent, but it’s not as though this ruined Smart’s day completely.

I remember that. The DeMatha coach also quietly “retired” a month or two after that. It was all sketchy as hell.

Natalie Nunn coming to AU

Commitment analysis: Evan Neal to Alabama

quote:

THE SITUATION

Evan Neal’s second commitment to Alabama comes with a letter of intent. The five-star tackle’s original pledge to Nick Saban was broken prior to the season, but the prodigal son has now, in a sense, returned home. Neal chose the Tide over a late push from Georgia and offers from nearly every major program in the Southeast.

quote:

WHY ITS BIG FOR ALABAMA

The Tide held off a late push from Georgia, which counts as a victory these days. The Bulldogs have become Saban’s main antagonist on the recruiting trail, so defending Neal against UGA is significant. And while the three Florida-based power programs aren’t recruiting at the tops of their respective games at the moment, stealing a five-star out of the Sunshine State is a still a major victory.

In Neal, Alabama gets a massive offensive tackle that erased the majority of bad weight over the last year and looks as college-ready as any offensive lineman in America. The 6-foot-7 Neal has the frame of an eventual first-round pick and is getting more athletic with each passing month. If the Florida-born tackle remains committed to slimming down, he seems like a sure thing to be an impact player in Tuscaloosa.

quote:

WHICH SCHOOLS IT HURTS THE MOST

Georgia’s push for Neal gained steam late in the process, so it’s not as though the Bulldogs spent much time counting on his commitment. Still, UGA hates to lose an impact lineman to an SEC rival, as Kirby Smart will now have to play against the massive tackle down the road.

As for Miami, the Hurricanes only seemed to be in good standing for Neal for a short time this offseason. Neal passing on UM only stings because Mark Richt and company have struggled to make waves with the truly elite 2019 prospects in the state. This on the recruiting trail seem to be trending the wrong direction for the Hurricanes and Neal’s commitment seems to be more of a biproduct of that than a cause.

Neither the Bulldogs or the Hurricanes will be devastated by missing out here, but the situation is still less than ideal.
