As I understand it, it was never a secret. He never tried to keep it a secret. He just didn't care to discuss it, which is pretty much the most sensible attitude one can take. So he wasn't 'outed' in the traditional sense; it would be more like some host rudely bringing up a topic that he didn't consider relevant.
