I don’t disagree with you but didn’t someone point out that Saban had the ice cream too? He was a hard arse but he wasn’t exactly Gunnery Sgt. Hartman either.
I think the biggest thing is DeBoer thinks 5 stars should be self motivated, self starters. Hell, I would make that argument too.
But it appears that might not be the case in the real world and that is what Saban understood. Or at least he did until everything started getting away from him at the end as it obviously did.

Dabo is slowly becoming IRRELEVANT!

Clemson's offense has just looked like everything is hard for them ever since Sunshine left. Defense keeps them competitive, but that program gives me strong late stage Les Miles vibes.

I don’t think Clemson will ever seriously contend again under Dabo. I don’t think they will suck, but I don’t think they will make a serious run either.
This was supposed to be the year that they bounced back, but they lost a huge opener at home, looked like shite against Troy, and now lost to GT. I think they have exhausted all excuses. The program is second tier now.

Deboer was Greg's first and main target.
Maybe Deboer hadn't agreed to meet yet, but
I can name the company and the booster who the plane belonged to. I could even name the pilot. But I won't.
The pilot had time to buy gift for their son at the beach while waiting on the Norvell meeting to end, and they also spent the night.
They also received gear signed by Byrne. I have seen it.
I am not bullshitting. And there are enough people around here that know me, to know thats true.
I realize Bama fans dont like the idea of hiring Norvell, I didnt/dont either, but thats where Byrne first flew.

They have nfl players all over the field and they’re 1-2. People acted like “Dabo is back” after last year. They had the same record as us but with a softer schedule. Dabo is arse when he doesn’t have an nfl qb and Venables stealing signs.

I’ve known VaBam for a long time. He doesn’t just make stuff up and he’s a good dude. He isn’t one of these message board posters seeking clout.
It could’ve very well shaken out how he said. Logistically, it’s a lot easier to fly to the Panhandle. DeBoer was also very fresh off the National Title loss so it could’ve been a timing thing. We know it was between those two guys and Sark as a pipe dream(that he admittedly considered).
I also don’t think Byrne would’ve flown either place without a solid indication that either guy was very interested so I still think ultimately he wanted DeBoer.
Hopefully it all ends up working out for us. So far so mid

The game has passed Dabo by just like it has passed Mike Gundy by.

Byrne is an idiot if he seriously thought he stood any chance of landing Sark.

Sark wasn’t going to leave, but he himself admitted he at least considered it. If you’re flying west anyway you might as well pop in and make him tell you no since he has history.

My understanding was that it was a maybe on Sark's end, and Byrne was doing his due diligence. They sat on the tarmac in the plane for about an hour waiting on Sark to decide.

I'm glad we dodged that bullet then.
Loved Sark as an OC (my favorite of the Saban era) but I've never been sold on him as a HC, not that it means anything...

Agreed.
The difference between his quarterbacks and coordinators from his peak to the last few years is glaring - and the top-to-bottom roster isn’t as talented either.
I think he hates the current landscape of CFB (revshare, NIL, the portal, etc.) more than most coaches and that it affects his ability to maximize Clemson’s potential in those areas to some degree.
I also don’t know that Dabo is as hungry as he used to be. When he first started he was a 39 y/o interim coach on a trial run who had never even been a coordinator and was probably making low six figures. He had a lot to prove and a lot more money to make in his career. Now he’s a two-time national champion in the middle of a nine figure contract. If he quit today he would end up in the CFB HOF and his descendants wouldn’t even have to worry about money until the end of time.
Hard to keep that drive going year after year as you get older and start stacking millions.

Even the GOAT threw the baby out with the bath water in season one.

We could get Dabo cheep, now.

The buyout was a nonstarter.
Not only the $20 million buyout, but he additionally has $30 million in Nike stock due if he finishes the length of his contract or is fired. So another school would have to make good on that as well, making the buyout $50 million. Obviously, no one is going to pony up for that.

You realizing what I've been saying about Dabo? Imagine paying him over 13 million per year bc he used to play for Bama.
