quote:Bingo. Before NIL we had the market cornered on the two things that mattered the most to recruits - coaching and program prestige/visibility. The latter doesn't mean anything to most kids anymore and coaching is only a secondary concern. The primary motivator is money, and we can't dominate CFB on that basis.
I think we were insulated from this the last couple of years because Saban had the ability to sell himself and that was still worth something to a lot of kids. With him gone we are gonna find out how the other half lives.

Well since he's leaving it's fair to admit he's pretty trash in coverage

We just need to get used to the fact that this is the new normal

Bag man strikes again. In that case, allow me to help you rewrite “he staying” into something a little more accurate with what you’ve said above. “With what I’ve heard, our NIL collective is heavily involved with trying to keep Downs in Tuscaloosa, and as of right now I’m hearing he’ll stay” There ya go. Stop speaking in absolutes, it’s burning you a lot.
Today isn't the day.
When the player physically says I’m staying and then under the cover of night doesn’t. It’s beyond infuriating.
I don’t care how I said or what semantics you want to pull out of your arse.
Here’s what you think, I’m saying it as an insider no I’m actually involved further so it’s not a I’m wrong or right, it’s we got fricked.

Well unless there is transparency where the funding goes. You won't know. You will never know and you'll never know how efficient the collective is.
With that being said; the University called me and asked for $45 on Monday. I declined.
I am the reason why Caleb Downs has left. That $45 would have kept him. I just know it!

Michigan FB treated him like a JV player too

What pisses me off about this is supposedly Downs being so "close" to Saban. If he truly cared about Saban he would've stayed. It's all bullshite and these kids are loyal to nothing else but the bag being thrown at them by these other schools. At this point, give me a roster of kids that love Alabama and want to play for Alabama. We've got a solid coaching staff by everything we can see, and they haven't even had a chance to prove themselves on the field. They deserve our support and loyalty, not these kids who are paid mercenaries that go to the highest bidder.

Not flaming Downs because he's a hell of a player and will be an impactful loss but he made multiple mistakes during the Michigan game.
We'll be fine, but losing Downs sucks.

Lmao…there is truth to this. He is talented but he played like a true freshman many times throughout the year.

Don't worry about explaining yourself to these folks.

Yeah he's a very good player obviously, but I'm gonna point out his flaws now. Nothing else we can do lol

That doesn’t make sense. Saban isn’t the coach here anymore.

You would think with Saban staying around the program office in BDS, etc. it was to help keep the team together, but this does not appear to the case. I guess I had false hope that this would help with the transition when it is really all about money.

I'll tell you this - I'll never purchase another player jersey, or a shirt from atheletethreads that supports a player's NIL. If they have no loyalty to my school, I have no loyalty to them.

But do you think Saban would've wanted Downs to run to the highest bidder or give the new coach a chance? Why does Saban have an office now in BDS? Because he loves Alabama. The only thing these portal kids are loyal to is $.

There are some, but very few guys who have bought in. Like Jihaad Campbell. But this is how most players are. The overwhelming majority of players we had wanted to play for Saban. That was it. Now that he's out they have no reason. They have no loyalty to the school and I mean it is what it is. A lot of them are not in state guys anyways so why would they?
Posted on 1/17/24 at 9:23 am to Crimson_Chaos
Yeah that’s what sucks. Saw a lot of little kids in Downs jersey. Ruthless to bounce just like that
Posted on 1/17/24 at 9:24 am to Legionfield
Losing Downs sucks, but Bama is bigger than individual players. If that crimson jersey really meant that little to him, he should go. Hopefully well find players where that jersey means something to him. You cant purchase having your handprint in the sidewalk at Denny Chimes.

Saban will never be in that office. Let’s be real.
