Cochran needs to get a hold of Mathis , Wynn, and Barmore. Pretty big space eater types but look immobile in drills not to mention Musika

The backups are pretty good. It was just the coaching.

The backups are inexperienced, no amount of coaching fixes a having that little experienced depth (not to mention needing those players in the weight room to be able to do what we need from our 3-4 DL). Blaming Kul for a multi-year recruiting failure is questionable.

That was due to LBs not DL.

Lot of blame can be thrown around this year but we just could not stop the run consistently with 5&6 in the box like we have been accustomed to. I think it is just bc a lot of our key players were playing on Sundays and these guys just weren’t ready

Agreed. This year coalesced around an extremely talented team that lacked depth in some key spots, had inexperience in key roles and a DC who no matter how you view him, was doing this job for the first time and still ended up in the NCG against the only other team that holds a candle to them Talent/Coaching/National Prestige wise currently.

To be fair, Buggs' injury really hurt us there. He was terrific before the injury bug hit.

Raekwon was a big disappointment, though. Needs to have the hunger in his senior season that he had as a sophomore.

Raekwon is way bigger this year size wise than he was last year, I don't know if that bulking up was his choice or a staff recommendation but he is so much slower and less explosive than he was at a lower weight last year.

with 5 OL vs our 4 DL somebody was getting double teamed. Was that 92 or 99?

Early in the year it was raekwon, after Q broke out teams started double teaming him and 100% raekwon did not deliver, but I really do wonder if the staff had him bulk up to take on double teams and it affected him more than they thought it would.

#49 was pathetic in the last two games and real problem is there was nobody on sideline to replace him

With nobody to spell him and coming off a hyperextended knee I’m not going to be too hard on him. You’re right that he was having to play and play way too much because the depth was lacking

Truth. For the most part, the DL did what they were supposed to do, especially with the lack of depth.

LB was the main position that couldn't deliver this season. Injuries, lack of good depth, and just bad play all came back to bite us. Alabama has dominated in the past with an defensive line that didn't necessarily sack the QB a lot but linebackers plugged gaps, blitzed, and were the enforcers behind the "mush rush" that the DL created. This year, Mack and Co. couldn't clean up like they have and it showed the worst in the biggest game.

20. “When you play against good people, that’s when you focus your concentration. Your sense of urgency to be disciplined in your execution all become more critical. Sometimes you get away with doing things not quite right against lesser competition, but when you play against real good people that’s when it shows up.” – Nick Saban

Ironically it was The Citadel that may have cost us a national championship with the constant cut blocks.

Losing Gattis hurts. I would have been thought he would have stayed more than one year and then take a future less risky job. I guess not.

Funny how all those "rumors" during the Championship games seem to be coming true. Just crap that added to the clutter and distracted the team from their needed focus.
Wondering if the "lie" will follow Key around? "I have not been contacted by GT"... seems to be all that much Bullshite about now, doesn't it?
So from the rumors that have been floated, the last one (not counting the Golding to OU) is the Coach Kul is leaving that has yet to be "more" confirmed

I believe our inability to stop the run (especially the straight ahead runs) can be somewhat due to our recruiting a different type player than what we recruited in Saban's early years. Our MLBs are smaller now to help with covering spread offenses. The bigger MLBs we had in the past were a lot harder to move once contact was made with a RB.

Gattis is going to be the OC at Michigan.

Can't blame him on that one I guess.

FWIW, it appears most of these potential moves are being driven from within the program, not because other schools are targeting our guys.

Those are the same rumors/rumblings I have heard as well. Coaches are more/less being invited to leave.

O damn that is a huge step up, I'd take that in a heartbeat too.
