One of the most important aspects of a successful passing game and development of a young quarterback is barely even being mentioned. An effective running game. By nearly all accounts, the running game will be a strength this year and will take a TON of pressure off of whoever wins the competition. Plus the fact that the short passing game is a staple of Rees' offensive philosophy, again a benefit to an inexperienced QB. Also throw in the fact that the most underused position on the field, the TE will also be a cornerstone of this offense. Jalen, Ty, Dylan, or Buch isn't expected to be the next coming of Tua or Bryce because they won't have to be. Personally, I miss the days when Bama lined up and gained 5 yds a run and there wasn't a fricking thing the other team could do about it. There isn't a more demoralizing thing that can happen to a defense.

This. Every word. As many yards and points as our offense put up the last few years, we struggled in short yardage situations and also keeping the defense off the field when it mattered. I expect the new emphasis on the run to also result in improved defensive stats. A good running game goes hand in hand with good defensive play.

I would love to see an offense where our OL actually put their hands in the dirt, fired out, and dented the other team’s facemasks. The first series of the season is all I need to see. If we are in the shotgun more than half the time, we are still the soft garbage we used to make fun of.

I expect Milroe to start the 1st game, but I’m guessing either Buchner or Simpson will get meaningful snaps in the first Game or two to see who can take the job.

I figure the first game - Milroe to have starting possession... but I also think the three Simpson and Buchner will run almost as many plays. All scripted. The purpose is to build confidence and to confuse Texas.

It’s not a bad strategy honestly. Preparing for 3 different people.

I’d prefer we have a badass QB and we all know it but oh well. We are here.

Hell I bet the scrimmage this weekend will be ultra scripted to confuse us as well.

I’ll do my best to play by play or groups of plays and positions.

Well, ADay gets here and Jalen Milroe looked exactly how I thought he would.

I cannot remember a Single A-Day where the presumed starter looked amazing. In fact it’s usually a poor game for him

The best version of this team happens if Milroe or Simpson takes a big step. So Jalen having a great scrimmage is nothing but good news imo

Saying that loss was the offenses fault is certainly a take

I didn’t even say that but their offense obviously couldn’t match UGA

Disregard that game entirely if you want to. That would make for 3 regular season losses. If that is what you expect then you won’t be disappointed if it happens.

Last time we had 3 loss season was 2010:

SC, LSU and Auburn.

Speaking of which... all those games we've lost over the years... since 2010..

2011: LSU
2012:TAMU
2013:Auburn and Okalhoma in Playoff
2014:Ole Miss and OSU
2015:Ole Miss
2016:Clemson in Playoff
2017:Auburn
2018:CLemson in Playoff
2019:LSU and Auburn
2020:
2021:TAMU and Georgia
2022: Tenn and LSU

Just get to 7 games without a loss and we'll likely to finish with o or 1 losses.

You can’t have both.

Hurts and Milroe had almost identical recruiting ranks as a senior. Saying Hurts was way better is not true.
Hurts 104 overall 18 state.
Milroe 109 overall 18 state.

This makes no sense at all! You can still be physical in shotgun, a formation does not dictate how physical you are.

It is asinine that fans are fretting over a player doing well in a private scrimmage just because he previously struggled.

Bet some of y’all were same people that put way too much weight into Mac’s interceptions in the 2019 Iron Bowl and thought the team was cooked if Young didn’t win the job.

Granted I feel like this is more like 2014 offseason where everyone assumed we’d get garbage time Sims who could not complete a forward pass so if he was our QB instead of Coker then we were cooked. I think Mac demonstrated a ton of ability and character despite his mistakes in the 2019 Iron Bowl. The Milroe track record is closer to pre-2014 Sims.

Those two are almost identical players IMO with the major difference being that Hurts was pretty good about not turning the ball over.

I believe Milroe can be functional for us this year but only if they build a playbook around his skills. He simply isn’t suited to run the BOB / BY offensive system from last year.

If he’s the guy we need to just go back to the Jalen Hurts 1 read offense and hope he progresses as a passer eventually.

I think this is likely the plan for Milroe, but Milroe is built much more like a true running back. He's a better athlete than Hurts was, so I think we're gonna see him run the ball A LOT.

If Milroe is the guy, I think the staff is gonna run him like crazy. Moreso than any previous QB. I don't think they have to be so nervous about him getting injured, because Ty Simpson is pretty much just as good.

The one thing I can say for Milroe is that he's a bad arse athlete. If he can just learn to not fumble the ball, and not throw up wounded duck passes, I think we can make it work.

So what I've learned is it's okay to say Milroe being a starter means we're in serious trouble but not that Buchner being our starter.

Anyways, whoever the starter is I hope they can grow during the season and get better. If not, hopefully the light comes on for the backup.

No! I saw his performance in the bowl game and thought, "Man that guys looks pretty good." And he was.
