So you are saying that 12-of-26 for 155 yards and an int is "playing well" and "impressive" while also saying that Milroe shouldn't give anyone a warm feeling? Interesting.

. How many of those were drops? Also you could see that he had ability. I guess he didnt play well. He wasnt holding onto the ball very long and made the easy throw at times.

Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, sources told ESPN on Tuesday.

Buchner's imminent entrance to the portal will make him the most accomplished quarterback to enter in the spring period, and there is expected to be a strong market for his services.

He enters with a willingness to return to Notre Dame if he doesn't like his options, sources told ESPN.

Buchner entered the offseason with some momentum after starting the Fighting Irish's 45-38 victory over South Carolina in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl, going 18 of 33 for 273 yards with three touchdown and three interceptions. He began the 2022 season as the starter in the first two games against Ohio State and Marshall before suffering a shoulder injury against the Thundering Herd.

Buchner enters the 2023 season as a junior but has three years of eligibility remaining because he played just three games during the 2022 season as a sophomore, which makes him eligible for a redshirt season.

One logical landing spot for Buchner would be Alabama. Other schools that have shown interest in portal quarterbacks this spring include TCU and Stanford.

Former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees left the Irish for the Crimson Tide this offseason. It became increasingly clear in Alabama's spring game on Saturday that the program lacks a clear cut starter.

Nick Saban was lukewarm in his endorsement of any Crimson Tide quarterback after the spring game, and the coach left the door open in his postgame comments about the Crimson Tide looking at the transfer portal as a possible solution at the position.

Taking ND’s castoff would not give me the warm fuzzies about our QB situation

I remember cameras catching Rees in the press box dog cussing Buchner more than once...something about "DO YOUR F***ING JOB". Not sure if Rees would want him down here.

That was a joke btw. I know I need to clarify anytime I make a joke here.

I think if we take him it should tell us how Rees really feels about him as a player.

I think that was actually Pyne #10 who Rees did a good job developing. Buchner didn’t play but like 2 games last year.

This. Buchner was benched for Drew Pyne. I'll bet money now that Buchner will land somewhere else other than Bama.

Think of it this way.
Milroe or Simpson starts the season. One them gets injured and is out for the season. The #2 QB backup is a true freshman.

If I could get a QB in the portal that’s a upperclassman with some experience for this role I probably would at least give it a shot.

So we're going to take the guy that was the 3rd stringer at Notre Dame?

Right.

As a backup maybe. I’d imagine at least one of the QBs currently on Alabama’s roster won’t be here by September.

Trust me, you don't want him.

I don’t think for one minute he’s looking for a qb to replace Milroe or Simpson. Maybe as a security blanket in case one them get injured

against a South Carolina team that was depleted because of opt outs and transfers.

I wouldn’t hate bringing in a guy that has worked with Rees in the past either. Both our potential starters like to use their legs. NFL teams pay good money for an emergency QB with starting experience

Our QB room is basically this:

4- Tiny bit of starting experience
15- No starting experience
10- No starting experience
12- No starting experience

Pretty sure Buchner got hurt. Doesn't mean he's good or anything, but he was better than Pyne (which is a very low bar).

Spring game 44 yards and an interception. He threw 5 interceptions in 3 games last year. Doesn't sound any better than what we have to me. After watching film, I think he would be an improvement. I stand corrected.
