Lane sure did hire Golding quickly though. It’s like Lane believes just average defensive is good enough with his offense.

If Lane's philosophy is that the sooner the other team scores, the quicker his offense gets back out on the field, then he hired the right DC for the job.

Did anyone have any takeaways from Steele running the defense or too hard to tell anything?

Blitzes seemed to work and DBs and LBs were playing better. Those were my major takeaways.

we had a few D starters sitting.

No more hash to hash stunts and delayed blitzes?

#84 Amari Niblack has tons of first round potential!
His catch on the out route in the 2nd quarter was one of the best catches by a Bama TE in a few years.
Hope the light has gone on with the other aspects of the game because he could be a feature guy in a short/mid range passing attack.

Imagine when this defense gets Dallas, Braswell, Lawson and Keeley inserted.

That's exactly what he believes.
What makes no sense is why he'd hire Golding. Recruiting is all I can think of. Lane doesn't like to do it and Golding is one of the best in the business. He needs a defense that takes a bunch of risks and creates turnovers though, not a bend don't break defense (except in crunch time when they inevitably collapse) like Golding puts on the field.

Hell, lesser defenses were almost good enough with his offense if he just could take and make a few field goals or punt in minus territory.

Didn’t run much but it took good effort from the tailbacks to get effective yards. Seems like run fits are sound and toughness in the middle is up.

Don't forget about Yhonzae Pierre.

Lane was up 17-3 at halftime against LSU last year but he kept going for it on 4th down and not getting it and at some point LSU scored like 42 straight points. Freeze used to do the same thing and he learned to stop that and then beat us twice and had a 24-3 lead on us the next year but Hurts brought us back and we won. If Lane learns to stop going for it too much he could be very dangerous. That Sanders QB he has will probably beat out Dart, but they both have talent.

I believe Lane believes he now has things in place from an on and off the field perspective where he can now build defensive depth. Also, Lane felt the program took a step back when DJ Durkin left and Ole Miss didn't make a suitable counter-offer. So, now Lane likely feels that Golding is at least competent and that's all he needs him to be.

What are yalls thoughts on Manny Henderson? He was a 5 star and he spent all last year learning to be a WR.

I was excited to see him have some impact, he blew by Moore and looked quick on, albeit not live, returns.
His frame and running style didn't seem like a good fit for RB, but was worried that the transition might dig him into a hole vs more experienced WRs.

So much talent at WR but I still think we need all the help we can get there. I’d love to see Henderson step up.
I think we’re stacked everywhere but QB and WR. Smitty’s and Waddle’s make any QB look good. We still don’t have those guys from what I saw.
Bond has the juice but struggles catching. Maybe Benson and Hale can rise to the occasion.
