Lonergan

He looks just like Mac Jones as a freshman. Go back and watch it’s insane.

What we have is two QB’s with minimal experience. Both are talented but not ready. 125 days to make the leap and find the starter. Unless something happens one of these two is the guy.

Milroe has a strong arm, needs some touch and reading defense.

Ty needs some touch and timing, seems ok at reading defenses.

Does anyone have the official count of how many sacks Jalen took?

Crimson team had 9 sacks in the game. Don't know how many were on Milroe though.

It would have helped if Pritchett could stop a leaky seal.

Quarterback Jalen Milroe guided the Crimson team as he threw for a game-high 245 yards on 19-of-37 passing and a pair of touchdowns. Ty Simpson started for the White team and completed 12-of-26 passes for 155 yards while Dylan Lonegran finished the game and connected on 8-of-14 pass attempts for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Poor journalism. Milroe was with the white team and lost. If you’re going to report on Alabama at least get the easy factual shite right.

Lonergan looks to be the most confident QB. Milroe needs a serious QB teacher. Ty seems nervous but the talent is there. Tommy Rees has his work cut out no matter who wins the job. Rees has to do some serious teaching.

If Milroe could figure out consistency in passing I’d prefer him because he would be unstoppable with his skill set...the problem are the turnovers. Saban won’t put up with it.

We’ve never had a season where we play QB musical chairs through the year but I wouldn’t be shocked to see it for a portion of the schedule. Milroe, Simpson and even Lonergan might get a real chance.

After the A Day game I have no feel on who it will be. Saw good and bad from everyone.

Luckily our toughest games are at home this year. If last year’s team got this home/away setup we would have gone 12-0. That’s how important scheduling becomes when you play in the West.

Defense and run game will be big. So much talent on both LOS.

y take on QB play at A-day

Nobody said this job is mine.

Jalen had some really good throws and some that were really bad. He locked in on the WR he wanted before the snap far too many times. The 4-for-4 series he had with MB should not even be considered when evaluating his day. If you go back and watch that series, he locked in on MB when they lined up for the first play and never looked at another WR. MB was going up against a walk-on CB that had no chance of hanging with him and Milroe knew it. Milroe never looked like he had learned how to read the defense and make adjustments. His passing in general was not particularly accurate.

Ty also had some very good and some very bad plays. He did appear to be better at reading the defense and going through progressions/adjustments. His delivery was a bit too slow. His accuracy was a little better than Jalen but neither of them looked like they have learned to throw a WR open. Case in point the fantastic int by Little. Had Ty thrown the ball 12 inches higher and 24 inches further toward the sideline the WR would have followed it away from the DB for a touchdown. Ty also did not adjust well to the different speeds of his WR's. That can only come from time on the field together over the summer.

If you take the 4-for-4 series out for Milroe and the 2 or 3 bad drops by #3 for Ty, Ty had the better day overall. But you cannot take plays out. Neither of then are ready for prime time. It is a good thing they both have about 125 days to get better at their craft.

Milroe needs to learn to read, adjust and improve his accuracy. Ty needs to relax in the pocket and learn to throw guys open. If neither can make those improvements, Milroe's ability to run will give him the lead. Milroe's legs can win us 8 to 10 games but will not win us another championship.

Essentially the same feeling for me. Milroe or Simpson will need to make a massive leap forward - in different areas depending on the guy - to be a quarterback of a championship squad.

As you point out, Milroe being a better runner is the differentiator right now but that only means his athletic ability will be utilized more - if his passing doesn't progress during the Summer and Fall camp - thus increase the risk of injury. So probably gonna need Simpson to be ready to play in real action too.

Nobody wants to hear it, apparently, but if a starter that is a good fit wanted to transfer to Alabama...I would not be surprised if Saban brings them in to compete in the Fall. I think we're going to have a solid run game and more physical defense. They just need a quarterback to really be a true contender.

I think one thing a lot of people is missing, is we shouldn’t need a Bryce level QB. Our RBs and defense should be able to help carry the team. Our QB needs to be at the level of AJ his first year. Move the chains and make positive plays. JMO

I feel like Ty could improve on his weaknesses more easily than Milroe for some reason. As dynamic an athlete as Milroe is, so many of his relatively easy throws looked like a struggle. He had some beautiful passes, but his consistency is worrying.

Ty just seems like a more natural passer, and the guy is slippery when he decides to take off as well. There's way too much talent at the skill positions not to have a QB out there that can effectively distribute the ball.

Lonergan should be in the mix for the QB1 job, imo.

To be fair, a sack is not a sack in spring football. All a defender has to do is touch the QB. Even if he reaches around the O-lineman and touches the QB's back as he is moving up in the pocket, it is counted as a sack.

I like baby Brodie too, but you have to figure he was willing to let loose a bit more because no one, likely himself included thought he was a part of the competition for the starting job. I could be wrong about that…but if I were in his shoes I’d just say efff it and throw it around too. There isn’t really any anxiety there when the expectations are low. I wonder what Ty would do with that mindset now that I think about it.

I didn’t say that is easy. People are acting like we need Bryce, when that’s just not the case.

I agree with you. I think we will find out what kind of teacher of QBs Rees is very soon because that's what we really need.

I’ve already said it but I already like Rees more than BoB. It looks like his offense will have all the skill players share the load. Hopefully he can help Ty clean up his throwing motion and help Milroe read a defense/make better decisions.

That’s a fair point. Milroe is a big guy and I would bet money he won’t go down so easy.
