Now you need to give Freddie some slack. He has probably never played or coached the mush rush. He will get it down.

We've gotten to the point now where none of our starters remember what it's like playing on an elite defense with with elite older players that held each other accountable. That was always sort of passed down from the older guys and they lead by example and for a while that took care of itself.

DJ Dale has been a part of quite a few bad defensive performances, so he can only compare this to what he's experienced, and he's never lined up next to Jon Allen and Daron Payne and held a team to 6 points in a playoff game. He's never played with a Reuben Foster or Ronnie Harrison that sought violent contact. We have a bunch of guys now that have only been coached by Pete Golding, there lies the problem

Wow.. that is hugely concerning. I can’t believe he said that. I mean the busted coverages are one thing, but the Ole Miss OL absolutely man handled the interior DL for the majority of the game - especially Barmore and Dale.

That’s mind blowing he would say that, and like you said, it sets a horrible example for the younger the players behind him on the depth chart. This mentality of “oh well, we tried” has got to go.

I would love to see the look on Roach's face after those comments by his group. Then again (not recruiting rankings but field performance ) we have a front 7 of average people with #31 having the best shot of breaking out of that group. #58 is the next guy up as far as effort. JMO

18 48 47 92 5 are very average for Alabama.

Probably been covered already, but what happened to Aaron Suttles on the JOX 3 man front show?

I don't know if it was ever officially said what happened, but I think he was part of Jox layoffs caused by COVID-19. He had the shortest tenure with Cumulus (which owns Jox) of the three of them, I believe, which is why he was the one to go.

I've long said this and firmly believe it still.

Talent is king on defense, but you have got to have a few mean players.

I've seen it from Josh Jobe but that's about it on defense. The guys on BOL are all worried about Josh Jobe getting a personal foul. I wouldn't mind it at all, hit those frickers in the mouth and show some fight. Waddle, Najee, and Dickerson are dogs on the other side of the ball.

We've come a long way from Ronnie Harrison needing to be restrained on the sideline or Rolando McClain suplexing a virginia tech wide receiver. When you can channel that aggression you've got a dog that will hunt. It has to exist to channel it though, and you need a leader that can cultivate it.

I'm convinced that Wright and Battle are scared to death of squaring up and coming down hill on a running back. It wasn't long ago that Marlon Humphrey was meeting Leonard Fournette in the hole and planting him on his arse. Not ankle tackling him or grabbing him from behind, planting him on his arse. Our safeties today would shite their pants if they saw Leonard Fournette with a head of steam. But that's okay, because their teammates aren't going to cuss them out for it like they would've then. They're going to praise their effort. This is a group mentality. I can't imagine how bad our first team offense kicked the shite out of the defense in fall scrimmages.

God that quote is miserable. If it was a lack of playing smart I'd be way more ok with what's going on. The problem is that the effort sucks. The aggression sucks. The toughness sucks. The fundamentals suck. Ole Miss ran a bunch of inside runs. You don't have to be smart to stop the run up the middle, DLine has to knock their man back and linebackers have to hit the hole. It's about effort level and intensity. If it was just a good scheme forcing us into mental mistakes, hey we can fix that, but its so much more.

Where's all that Saban talk about you can't waste a mistake? They're making up all these BS excuses about signal stealing and mental errors; like the problem isn't to a large extent just flat out lazy and unfocused plays. I would just love to see one player come out and speak the truth and acknowledge that we have a big problem on our hands and demand we get it right.

#31 is the only one you listed who's not bogged down by having to play the stupid 2-gap "mush rush" DL scheme. Saban & Golding keep our DL doing that same scheme that doesn't work well, apparently expecting it to work better next time. It won't. Our DLs should be quickly/agressively attacking through gaps for penetration into the backfield. They'll play with more fire if/when they're coached to play an agressive attacking DL scheme. Saban and Golding are the ones who need to (1) recognize/admit, (2) learn from, and (3) correct their own mistake(s). It amazes me that they still haven't.

Once again I’ll say it. We have much bigger issues than missed assignments and lacking fundamentals.

That makes sense. Sorry for him and everyone else that lost a job due to Covid.
But, he was there to be the Alabama voice. I'd the show much more Auburn bent? I know Cole is there for the Auburn side, but he's typically a pretty good straight shooter and doesn't play Aubie homer too much.

i think the biggest thing in the outcome of the game, that seemingly most are forgetting. that rickety waste of a defense, got 2 huge stops late in the 4th qtr that provided the win.

Uh, you mean Ole Miss center got a huge stop messing up the snap as they were about to cruise to another successful 3rd or 4th down transition to 1st down.
