Maybe it's just me inhaling all the hopium, but upon further reflection over the last couple of days I have a hard time believing Milroe can't read a defense. I mean do we really think Saban would have held Buchner out until mop up time if Milroe was as lacking in that department as a lot of people here think? I'm not saying he's Bryce, because he's not. There's a massive gulf in ability between having a Bryce style football computer in your head and being unable to recognize coverages though. Seems to me that what probably happened is Milroe made a bunch of strides with recognition and processing over the summer and locked the job down last month.

"hopium" kool word!
as one who was on the milroe train early, then i kind of pumped the brakes because i just couldnt see his progress. this is why i'm not a qb whisperer. as for me, i'm taking everything prior to last weeks game and hitting the delete button. i'm now rather excited to see what milroe can become. i got the hopium...

Milroe was definitely going through his progressions against MTSU on Saturday and not taking off unless it was a designed run or his last resort.

I think he has the ability to process what defense is showing presnap and post snap. Good thing is that he has experience playing against Texas so he's familiar with them.

I didn’t even see how Milroe played the out route and moved the corner. If he’s doing that kind of stuff he is reading defense.

Another thing he points out that I think people may not account for is that reading the defense involves more than just pre-snap and passing reads.

Given Milroe's skill set, if he can effectively execute a run option read, that's another big time tool in the bag to have. And one that frankly a lot of defenses haven't seen much of in the last few years.

Trying out the ol' bat signal for CodeName to see if we can get an update on Key's availability

Greg McElroy on WJOX said this morning that Quinn Ewers was not good at all on long passes, and not good when he's under pressure. Historically, he has connected on something like 20% of passes over 20 yards.

And Ewers was 0-7 last week on balls over 20 yards.
Compared with him being 3-4 on balls over 20 yards against us last year.

Gmac said Ewers has a side arm delivery, and you cant throw a deep ball accurately with that kind of delivery. I think he said Ewers has never thrown a TD pass over 20 yards.

Some dude on BOL regarding Key:

quote:

“Black jersey and brace all week…on a bike nearly all of yesterday…doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t play…but dude hasn’t practiced at all.”

He played high school ball in Texas, so there's that.
