Prepare to see a lot of passes into the sideline when the first read isn't there. This is going to be a 180 from Bryce. Of course we can win games with the QB throwing for 150 yards and ripping off a couple of highlight runs. At least until we play a LSU or Texas. Texas will be a good test for the offense, yet winning or losing won't make or break a NC run. Win the SEC West... even with 2 losses...beat Georgia in the SECCG and we're in the CFP without debate.

Unfortunately that’s a scenario nobody will know until we find ourselves in it
Here’s to hoping we don’t lol

In that scenario there will be a ton of debate. A 2 loss team has never made the playoff.

The issue, of course, is passing. Can he make a secondary read to a WR? Will he be able to see his first option covered and find a second WR or will he dump it off to the RB? Will he run?
For Bama to win a championship, Milroe needs to be able to:
-Read a defense
-Make adjustments at the LOS
-Deliver accurate short and mid range passes
-Occasionally make a second read
-Not turn the ball over
That’s it. He doesn’t need to be Bryce, he just needs to be a little better than Jalen Hurts was as a passer in 2017.

That shouldn’t be too hard. Or least we hope not.

That kind of worries me. That team had Bo Scarborough, Damien Harris, Najee Harris, and Josh Jacobs at RB plus Calvin Ridley, Devonta Smith, Jerry Jeudy, and Henry Ruggs at WR and they still lost at Auburn.

Love the logo. $45? No thanks.

My concern is if we're 80 yards from the end zone and down 5 and we need him to lead us down the field quickly.

Can't we just let them have a chance to prove themselves on the field before we start worrying a bunch?

It worries you because a completely different Alabama team lost to a completely different Auburn team 6 years ago?

What??? So there is no need to ever discuss an Alabama football team until after they have had a chance to prove how good or bad they are during a game? How deep in the season do we have to go before we can “worry a bunch”?

Discussing Alabama football on an Alabama football forum is frowned upon. At least when discussing the future.
So shut up about the upcoming season.

And most of everyone on that list was a Freshman or sophomore with a limited role at that point. Talking about a roster of guys that would become great players doesn't mean they were there at that time.
Also, a road game like that is tough for younger players. As much as we like to talk about toughness, they are still 18 and 19 year old kids that can easily be affected by that kind of pressure.

That's true, although Bo and Calvin were seasoned players at that point.
The point is, that team was better on paper going in than this one, at least at the skill positions. They lost to at Auburn that year. So if Milroe isn't much better than Hurts the team is going to be in trouble as far as winning a national title. That was not a championship level team with Hurts. I'd like this one to be. So Milroe needs to be better than that.

Not saying that at all. I'm saying for 3 and half hours last October, I watched in bewilderment Hendon Hooker throw a party on our defense without making a single read. Whether he grew as a qb is immaterial. I assume he did over the years. All afternoon, I watched the guy snap the ball every 15 seconds, drop back and throw the ball to the only guy he looked at. With wild success. He never pretended to read anything. Am I going crazy? I feel like it was discussed for weeks afterward on this board. Does someone else remember this? Anyways we've driven into a Hendon Hooker ditch which wasn't my intent.
No, you did not imagine things. That's pretty much what happened and we've seen it repeatedly over the years. There is a bit of a disconnect in how we coach DB's. We have great talent and put DB's in the NFL regularly and they are successful there, but somehow that has not translated to our secondary being able to stop even a mediocre passer. Part of the problem is because we haven't had a pass rush in years. I realize people were afraid of Anderson but aside from a slight uptick his freshman year he had no effect on our pass rush after that. The second part seems to be this habit of just letting them catch the ball. I do not accept that. Every ball that is thrown should be mine. period. And if someone does have the audacity to catch it. They may not live to regret it, but no. we predicate everything on just stopping "the big play" which in todays world just means we make them take more time scoring. In my opinion the only successful defensive series for us is a drive that lasts 3 plays or less and results in a punt or a turnover. But no. we expand it out to be anything that results in less than 6 points. At this point I'm just blindly hoping that Steele has somehow brought some sort of sanity back to how we do defense at Alabama.

I have the same blind hopes as you, but when the shite hits the fan hope is not a plan you can depend on; high scoring offense is, but that would take an even bigger amount of hope.

Agree, in hindsight we know the skill positions were stacked. There will be guys that break out, we just don't know who they are yet. There's too much talent on the team for that to not happen.
I'm definitely in the camp of being worried about Milroe stepping up when it comes to passing the ball; but it looks like this team is going to have a totally different philosophy and definitely more guidance than last year. Much more running, we have what looks to be a great O-line, and a much more friendly system tham O'Brien was running last year. Having an offense that was just Bryce going out and winning games, wasn't going to be friendly to any backup.
Does Milroe need to improve as far as consistency and turnovers? Sure. But we also can't act like he won't or can't develop. Him being just marginally better puts us in a spot where only 3 or 4 teams in the nation can even match up with us.
