We do seem to start slow. It's important that we weather the storm the 1st quarter. They will throw everything at us they have, but once they run out of trick plays it will come down to them being them and us being us...we just need to make sure we aren't down by 14 points by then. If we can play them even in the first quarter, or even down by 3-7 points that's a win for us. If we are ahead after the 1st quarter, it could get ugly.

Also I like Nuss a lot as well. People always bring up that he cost us the A&M game. Getting in a 20-0 hole cost and not getting off the field on 3rd down cost Bama that game. I thought he called a brilliant game against Aggie this year.

This horse has been kicked to death but we cut that lead to 6 points at halftime. If we had fully committed to the run in the second half, we win and probably win by more than a TD.

The A&M game last year is a good example of how not to start against these HUNH offenses. You can't play their game and allow them to dictate the pace/rhythm. The defense can only do so much but the offense HAS to hold on to the ball, eat clock, and finish drives with TDs. 3 and outs are killer. We can't allow AU to play to their gameplan/script.

We sure didn't start "slow" in the 2010 IB...

I kinda think Auburn is going to jump on Bama early...ala...TAMU game because emotions will be at an all time high for them.

But I'm not worried at all because I know Bama will battle back and seize control of the game and win once the emotions wear off early in the 1st qtr.

I'm a huge fan of Nuss. He's the best OC that I can ever remember us having, and I think the switch flipped for him after last year's A&M game. We lost that game because A) his bad playcalling that allowed A&M to get up 20-0 and B) his refusal to run the ball in the 2nd half. However, he's learned his lessons since that game. We won Georgia, TAMU this year, and LSU this year because of his insistence on running the ball in the 2nd half. He also learned something from the start of last year's TAMU game. When we got down by 14 this year, he threw out the running gameplan and let AJ air it out so we could catch back up, then went to the run. Without Nussmeier we wouldn't have beaten A&M this year.

Nuss has adjusted, you're right, but it has become a problem. Now he is sticking to the run too much when it doesn't work. Oh, they're stuffing all of our runs? We'll just try it again without using the pass to open it up, then we'll throw.

It gets annoying. We're winning, so it is all nitpicking, but this whole offense has felt like one big missed opportunity.

I don't think Alabama starts flat or tight. They come out with a workman like demeanor and maintain it throughout the game. Most teams come out on an emotional high that allows them to start off very strong, but is impossible to maintain for a full game. This, IMO, is why Alabama has been so hard to beat.

then Auburn is fricked. AU hasn't beaten our "little girls" since 1979

I think Auburn might try to come out throwing from a HUNH 3 or 4 wide shotgun set in an attempt to get us on our heels and get some quick points. I don't know how successful it will be, but that is what I think they might try to do.

As far as the offense goes, we always throw a bunch of different looks at defense and see what is working. Then, we adjust our game plan accordingly.

I totally agree that AU will try to open the field and "play their luck".

I'm not sure what Bama will do on Offense, I'd like to see Bama start with a punishing running game and pass when the looks are open.

On D I'd cheat up until they made me stop.

I never thought JM was too conservative. He was another one inexplicably in love with the shotgun formation.

I would be fine if Bama ran screens, but without a rocket screen or downfield threat it loses some luster.

AU will be on their second string qb before the second qt.
The D will be stout and the O will score points.
No way AU out scores Bama.

Where's that chart showing Bamas average score each year over the past 10 years and how it also shows it going up nearly every year, and now is averaging around 40 points a game.

Screens have been a huge part of our offense under Jmac and Nuss it seems you guys remember the ones caught for a loss not the long gains which we have had a ton of them. But even a screen for no gain puts a horizontal stretch on the D.

Whether it's successful or not we'll see but I think we take the ball if we get the chance and have a scripted drive with quick strikes and try to get up 7-0 right away.

But,we shall see.Soon.

This is a good analysis. I think the only chance the Barn has is to get out to a quick lead. If Bama sets up shop right off, it will get nasty

Relax, Lindsay will start at Center and we will march down the field pounding Auburn on each possession. Every game Lindsay has played, Nussmeier pounds the ball successfully and tomorrow will be no different.
