We need Wilkins way more than we need Freeman. If we can just get one I want Wilkins.

I agree we need another ball handler on this roster because nothing says Allen is for sure coming back and/or Holloway won’t be hanging out in prison.

Drew Fielder will visit tomorrow. That would be a great pickup

Would make the 4-5 rotation interesting. He's pretty much a drop-in Sherrell replacement, but rim protection becomes an issue. Wonder if you'd basically flex Garrison out at the 4 defensively and count on all the extra wing size to help at the rim.

I don't like sherrell comparison. We had two big going out, we getting two bigs in. I just feel like we upgraded in frontcourt.

I see this as more of a response to Kentucky dropping a massive, desperation bag for Freeman. Fielder is more of a 4.

Why? Both are similar sized, have good outside shots, but questionable athleticism (i.e. not great lob threats).

It was going to be almost impossible to downgrade there. We had 2 healthy frontcourt-sized players for most of the season, and one of them was Noah Williamson.

He'd be a fine 4 offensively, but not sure he can guard really athletic 4s. That's why I'm saying it'd be interesting to see him paired with Garrison. One might play the 5 offensively and 4 defensively and vice versa.

Just saw where UConn’s Jaylin Stewart is in the portal. 6’7 utility player, can play anywhere from 2-4… we recruited him out of high school.

Watching film of Drew Fielder and Donnie Freeman, I like Fielder's game a little bit more than that of Freeman. Fielder's offensive game is better than Freeman's in my opinion. Plus I like his size. Either one would be a decent pick up, but I don't think losing Freeman is such a big deal if we add Fielder. I think adding Fielder would be a better addition. I said on a earlier post that we needed not just one, but a couple of white guys. Oats and Preston knows it as well. #RollTide

The old folks in the first few rows might show up for more games than normal if we have some exciting whites.

I think there is some merit to the exciting whites theory. They have to be American though. Europeans are too soft and indoctrinated in soccer style frickery for the most part. The need for American white guys to prove themselves every step of the way tends to produce players who are pretty resilient and good teammates though.

Fielder seems like he would do well in this system but he's not going to be an imposing defensive threat. The highlights I've watched suggest he could be a Nelson type 4 for us. He's got a decent handle, he can take uncomfortable big defenders on the perimeter off the dribble some, but his 3pt shot is much better than Nelson form-wise and I think it is a bit more compact than Sherrell's without comparing side by side.

He's got right kind of offensive bag to play bigger but not lose the spacing a 3pt shooting 4 provides. He's only got one year left, so he can't really have those "year to learn the defense" deals moving from 5 to 4. That's the only downside I see with putting him at 4.

However, I think it is essentially Sherrell 2.0 to play him at center. We'll be able to stretch the court from every position on offense again but with less rim protection and just as bad rebounding.

I don't think he's nearly the athlete Grant is. Ideally we would put Freeman at that spot, but apparently Kentucky has dropped a massive bag to compensate for how mediocre they are.

I think a lot of our success, or lack thereof, next season is really going to come down to whether Davis-Fleming makes the second year jump bigs have had a tendency to do. He's going to be the only pure 5 on the roster next season unless we sign another one. After watching all I could find on him I think it's possible. He's got the build and mobility of a defensive anchor at least. Just wish he was a couple of inches taller. I was hoping we'd be involved with the Machot kid, but that doesn't seem to have materialized.
