This is a great interview, and AJ McCarron makes a lot of good points about Alabama this season, and the state of cfb in general.
AJ is becoming my favorite Alabama commentator. He's a straight shooter.

Sounds like DeBoer has had enough of the divas on the team. That’s a damn good sign.

This house cleaning should take out the trash. Both AJ and Ha Ha giving indications that folks needed to go.
This time next year we will know the real deal about the program.

Ha Ha has been alluding to this recently (that it makes no sense to spend NIL $$ on guys who aren’t producing when you can get at least somewhat better, maybe way better production for the same or less money).
It’s kind of ruthless but the players wanted it this way.

AJ sounding like Deboer mouthpiece sunshine pumper. So much so that I'm wondering if the university isn't paying him.

We need to start a Gofundme for a group therapy session for bonners, shocco, and the rest of the tantrum crew

AJ was spot on.
Listen...I can't even blame these players for going after tons of money waved in their faces. If this shite system had been around decades ago, who knows how we're perceiving the Joe Namaths or Derrick Thomases. Older players can rant about it...and be 100% right...but 90% of them probably would have done the same thing.
University greed and insane coaching salaries got it into the courts where bleeding heart sympathizers who likely never watched a game just destroyed the system.
Literally ANYTHING you do can be a de facto "restraint on trade."
Requiring school enrollment to play? Seems like a restraint to me.
Black robed dumbasses didn't start the problem, but they sure nailed the coffin shut.

Well the conservatives were on board with the 9-0 USSC division and Gorsuch and Kavanaugh wrote the opinions so it’s hard to spin this as “bleeding heart,” which to me connotes “liberal.” But when this became a zillion dollar business that as you noted schools and coaches were getting insanely rich in, it was inevitable that we’d get to where we are now.

It all started in the lower federal courts before making it to SCOTUS, but yeah, regardless of political persuasion, the courts killed the game. Maybe something can be done at some level to at least make it workable...because right now it's a disaster.

I don’t care about NIL, the players are the ones putting their asses on the line and the reality of 2025 is that while the value of a college scholarship may be six figures and seem substantial to normal folks, it pales compared to what all the hawgs are lapping up from this sport’s trough.
But no sport can survive with year-to-year free agency. Period. I don’t know how you reel the portal in save a CBA, but I think if it could be reeled in the money might also get toned down a bit.

Some of this might take care of itself. A lot of the guys who hit the portal never play again. I’m thinking coaches are getting wise to guys leaving programs who didn’t contribute. Why take that drama?

No politician is going to stand against players making money. You need to look at your rosters.

Well, we sure as hell weren't Alabama.

Well it’s obvious now that experienced players are what is required and that means the portal and it means $$ and it means billionaires. Not a good thing for most schools. It doesn’t mean a school can’t have a good season but the days you are referring to are probably over.
Great facilities don’t mean anything.
You think an agent cares about your facilities? It’s all about money and playing time.

It all started
It all started with the NCAA and their lack of ignorance about what was coming. Their arrogance to assume they could control by ignoring. Everyone saw this coming even Saban mentioned years ago.
It will get addressed but will take time now to ensure legally it can. What the courts have done now has created a framework for the new commission or whatever group comes together to fix it. Yes the courts have laid out legally what cannot be done which also tells you what can.

I can tell you what happened. Either the unversity or DeBoer threatened their access to the program. Trent Richardson, McCarron, Mark Ingram and Damien Harris used to not hold back on bad performances by Alabama. If they played soft then they'd say "they played soft". They openly would say "this is not the Alabama standard". Then all of a sudden three of the four started having much "softer" takes and DeBoer even "laughingly" confronted Mark Ingram on an interview about criticising the team. The only one who hasn't stopped is Damien Harris, and strangely enough he's also the one with the least amount of inside information about the team. That's no coinky dink. It sounds like a threat was made either by DeBoer, the university or both.
