Dijon Lee’s pass interferences on 3rd down has led to:
- 3rd and 17 vs UGA ended in a FG
- 3rd and 22 vs Georgia ended in a TD
- 3rd and 7 vs UT ended in a Punt
- 3rd and 4 vs UT led to a FG
Then today:
3rd and 9 led to A&M’s 1st TD
3rd and 7 led to the 2nd TD
Sucks even more bc Chuck McDonald is GOOD.. Kid reminds me so much of Anthony Averett.
McDonald and Z Brown would be nice

Move Lee to safety and put Hubbard on the bench

Dijon Lee is immensely talented. His lack of technique in man coverage falls squarely on poor coaching. I guarantee you Nick Saban would have him playing at an elite level.

That's probably the answer to a lot of our secondary issues, but they're not going to do it.

Kind of like the level Z Brown plays at?
Chuck McDonald is Anthony Averrett 2.0
- Z and Chuck as the Boundary/Field CBs
- Ivan Taylor (he’s the one who should replace Sabb) at F/S
- Red at Nickel
- Jireh at S/S
(Use Hubbard as the “Box Safety” and as a LB when they go Dime and blitz him a lot on 3td and obvious passing situations

Maybe we should ask the DC why he keeps putting him out there

Bc Z Brown is injured.
Chuck replaced him but Z went down early vs UT
Unfortunately, he is the best option left bc of injuries. Glad he was in on the pick-6
He will get moved to Safety imo.
He is ELITE when the ball is in front of him. He just CANNOT play on the perimeter bc he can’t keep his hands off the WR when trying to play the ball on the air bc he won’t get his head around.

What’s crazy to me is that it looks like he’s in good position every time he gets flagged PI

Yeah, you are right. He’s never “beat”. He just will not look back for the ball.
Then he panics and grabs the guy.
The 3rd and 22 vs Georgia (that led to the go ahead FG) was only a 15yd pass and terribly under thrown but he still latched onto the WR bc he was in man coverage and had his back to the ball

If the man can catch I would make him a wr. Isn't he one of fastest on the team ? It may be the perfect time now that Coleman-Williams is out

Early in the game Lee was the best offensive player for both teams (Pick 6 and two PIs).
You also forgot to mention the offisides penalty on Lee on the second PAT that A&M kicker doinked in. 35 total penalty yards for Lee.

This is exactly it.
When he doesn’t have to get his hips turned he’s an instinctual playmaker.
He’s just not a corner for that reason and continuing to ask him to play that position isn’t fair to him or his teammates.
And I’m not sure if it’s due to injury but we have one if not two safety/hybrids who simply can’t cover in space effectively right now.
Texas A&M was the 107th ranked passing team in the nation in opponent adjusted YPA coming into this game and we couldn’t defend them.
Tennessee was like 87th coming into that game and we couldn’t defend them.
We were the 92nd ranked defense in opp adj YPA before we let Reed have wide open shots against us today. This is easily the worst secondary of my lifetime and it’s inexcusable given the depth and experience we have at safety for that to be the case.
The secondary needs to be rebuilt from the ground up prior to LSU if we’re serious about winning anything that matters this year because if not Kiffin and Green are going to carve us into Thanksgiving turkey.

I mean he obviously has the talent, do you think he’s ready mentally? If he misses assignments back there it’s 7.
I frankly haven’t watched him closely in coverage what’s your take on his ability to cover downfield? We have plenty of hitters, we need guys who can cover within the zone concepts they’re committed to running.

It Was** inexcusable, and then I found out we’re on pace (that’s right, on ‘pace’) to force more takeaways than the 2016 squad - all is well brother.
No, you’re absolutely spot on. This secondary is terrible, incredibly disappointing since the start of the FSU game.. The front seven has been OK at best over the last 3, albeit beat to shite starting 2H UGA. The pass rush has disappeared recently (but I see you 14 K. Henry !). But the worst thing I’ve seen in Year 3 is dudes laughing and joking around on the sideline while down/tied/slight lead against this dog shite A&M team. We’re watching a bunch of children led by entirely unserious adults on Saturdays. They don’t learn anything at all week to week (you can say Y/Y at this point, we look no different thank Yr 1)

Lee is a liability at these position and opposing coaches know that.

i'm thinking everyones perception of this defense would be considerably different if DL5 were at another position or maybe on the bench.
honestly cant remember a single player being so detrimental to the success of a defense and in effect, a team.

The defense is elite at creating takeaways and historically bad by our standards at defending against passing plays.
The first factor is the only thing that allows us to be functional as a defense like an offense that hits huge explosive TDs but can’t sustain drives.
As for the front 7 the we aren’t the same against the run without Green, he’s just that impactful but getting Hill back has helped and some of the other edge guys played well from the stands at least before a rewatch.
As for the pass rush I will say it again: no football team will ever have an elite pass rush when playing soft zone coverage, the ball comes out too fast.
So as long as we play swarm zone or whatever he wants to call it with 10-12 yard drops we will continue to give up drives and be unable to generate sacks consistently because even non functional QBs like Reed and Macintyre can hit 7 yard outs and quick hits.
I never played secondary so I won’t comment on the particulars from that perspective much but most QBs from HS or even middle school level on are taught to take those coverage looks as an automatic read and the ball comes out so fast as a result that you could have Will Anderson rushing and unless it’s deflected it wouldn’t matter.
The drops looked somewhat better at times during the game and he was at least mixing up looks which made life harder for them at times but Tennessee was the most inexplicable defensive gameplan since Vandy.
