ESPN’s Michael Wilbon Rips Lane Kiffin Over His Comments About Players Be Able To Transfer
© Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports
Earlier this week, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin commented on players from the BIG 10 and PAC-12 being able to transfer and play immediately this season due to their season being canceled...
quote:

“Kids are having their schools or their conferences deciding to shut down, so they can’t play, and a lot of them have a lot of money on the line with the next level, or they just want to play their last year,” Kiffin said. “So it’s really unfortunate that the NCAA is not allowing them to transfer and be eligible immediately.”
ESPN’s Michael Wilbon had this response, per Saturday Down South...
quote:

“I have never agreed with anything Lane Kiffin has said and I’m glad to have consistency on this here program today. The notion that that kid may be a student too, these coaches now, more than ever are looking like liars. … Lane Kiffin doesn’t give a damn about the student part. … These coaches want these guys to be pros, except they’re not getting paid.”
What are your thoughts? Should players be able to transfer and play ASAP?

I’m not even sure I understand Wilbon’s counter point...Kiffin is saying “allow immediate transfers” and Wilbon is ranting about...student athletes not getting paid? What does that have to do with what Kiffin said?

I don't see how one is an argument for the other. If I'm a regular student and want to transfer to another college I don't have to sit out for a year.

These kids chose to play at their schools on a FOOTBALL scholarship. If the school can’t offer them football, they should be able to go somewhere that can.

Well said

It shouldn't surprise anyone that a Big 10 shill is opposed to Big 10 players moving south.

“ Lane Kiffin doesn’t give a damn about the student part.” The players don’t give a damn about the student part either. They just want to get to the NFL, not grad school.

He still doesn’t say why they shouldn’t be able to transfer.

Wilbon has whined about the transfer rule for years. The only reason he's coming out against transferring now is because he wants to perpetuate the Covid fearmongering to oust the President.

Sounds like Wilbon is putting a lot of stock into what he *thinks* Kiffin thinks instead of what Kiffin actually said.

The fact that Interdisciplinary Studies exists negates Wilbon's argument.

I’m pretty sure every player that has a legitimate shot at making the NFL gives a damn about the word Student. Its part of the process.
