Spending time with your children investing in what they want and like to do is vital for their growth and for their self-worth. I agree 100% on that.

I know travel ball is being used as a loose example here, and I don't mean to get on a travel ball or youth sports kick but from my perspective as a father of a 20 year old, a 14 year old, and an 8 year old is that much of this "travel" stuff be it baseball, basketball, Xtreme cheer, etc. is for the parents to have social lives and make friends with other parents.

I've never seen an elementary age boy or girl jonesing to do one specific thing all the time year over year. They may enjoy it, but they want to do other kids' stuff too. As they get older that changes and shifts on both sides (parent and child) regarding the why. But, for the most part, these kids get signed up for this stuff at 7 or 8 years old because mom and dad do nothing but work, homework, birthday parties, car pool, etc. and want other grown ups to socialize with.

Same for why every 30+ year old suddenly starts going to church and retreats and all that (ducks....) but I feel it's mostly true. Not that they don't "believe" or that it can't yield positive results in their lives. But the origin of that is often socially motivated.

re: Wrestlemania 2026 in NOLA

The stories going into the big events have generally been much better. And the two night format seems to work really well. I anticipate this being a monster event for the city and the best experience of the 3 WMs that NOLA has seen thus far.

WM 30 was great but that really was a different era and things were done on a smaller scale. WM 34 with its length and quality became forgettable overall. This one will be different and will likely feel on the level of the Super Bowl.
Recently, I listened to Tom Petty one way for around 5 hours one way and R.E.M. for the return trip. Both were solid decisions.
So the first official act of DOGE is to cut its leadership in half…sounds like it’s working already.
Supposed to be sworn in at Noon and I think they were close to running behind. Probably explains why Roberts rushed.
The favorite Hip-Hop Albums thread showed that most of the revered work is pre-2010 at best.

What are some good records to check out from the last 10 years for those of us who love hip-hop, but can’t seem to get with much new stuff these days?

They passed this without even finding a source of funding for it. I wouldn’t hold my breath that we ever see it implemented.

My understanding is that the funds are payor tax dollars already designated for the public school in your child’s school zone. So a payor simply has the option to take their tax money and use it for private school if they choose. So funding is not really an issue.

Retaliation and discrimination are basically the only grounds for any kind of legal action for dismissal of employment, outside of breach of contract. And, of course, retaliation has to stem from a rightful act on your part. At will employment stacks the deck on one side when it comes to things like this, and the employers know it and use it when they want to.
We’re about to see a run of exposes on these folks that are really behind these OF accounts and the actions of these “models”. There has to be so much sex trafficking, pimping, whatever you want to call it. No doubt, after seeing the end of that doc, that this girl is not the primary force behind what she’s doing.

2nd Grade reminds me of GBV. Really cool record.

This is Lorelei, to me, is like Alex G meets Wilco. Great listen.

As of today:

Father John Misty - Mahashashana
MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks

Mannequin Pussy - I Got Heaven
The Cure - Songs of a Lost World
2nd Grade - Secondhand Explosions
This is Lorelei - Box for Buddy, Box for Star
Hovvdy - Hovvdy

The fact that they, and their tweets like this, are the exact reason the result is what it is and they're just still going with it is next level stupidity.

re: CNN: The Trump era is upon us

Dana Bash tried to blame Trump for the dissatisfaction by claiming that Trump may getting the blame for the country going in the wrong direction. She said that despite Harris being in office that this is the Trump Era. Chris Wallace shut that down and said she’s being very generous. He then said Harris needs a miracle with those exit poll numbers.

Why the Dems Can’t Close the Gap

1. Hammering abortion and women’s rights only can take you so far. This seems to be the only issue, other than OMB, they’re running on.

2. Telling the voters that they’re only decent human beings if they vote one way is an insane persuasion tactic.

If they can’t pull off the steal this time, these two points will be looked back on as to why they couldn’t win, IMO.

My album of the year so far.

LINK

Reminds me of Khraungbin with more of an indie folk slant. Excellent for late nights or early morning listening.
DIIV with a new album coming this year also.
Her husband seems do some investing in oil and gas, per IG. My guess is that brought them to NWLA.
The extent that some grown ups are, or pretend to be, offended by pro wrestling in 2023 never ceases to amaze.

WWE is a $9B company with largely family oriented content these days and licensed products everywhere you turn pretty much globally. Anyone who wants to make money would be crazy not to consider an association.
