Paul Finebaum Identifies ‘Serious Problem’ For College Football
Shanna Lockwood-USA TODAY Sports
Paul Finebaum believes college football’s attendance numbers dropping over the last seven years is a major problem. According to a report from CBS Sports, attendance numbers are dropping across the sport. Average attendance was reportedly down 7,000 per game – 15 percent – from a record 2008 mark of 46,971.
quote:

“It’s much easier to sit at home and watch all the games provided as opposed to spending a fortune driving however long it is to deal with traffic,” the SEC Network analyst said on the radio this week.

“It’s a serious problem,” Finebaum said. “It’s been going on for a number of years. When I travel, I talk to the athletic directors and I think every single one – maybe not Alabama – has told me it’s a big concern.”

“I don’t want to say it’s not worth it,” Finebaum said. “When you can turn the TV off at midnight and just got to sleep, maybe it isn’t worth it. I think it is a real problem. I think all these other things are secondary, but they are adding to it.

“Over a certain age, it’s becoming a real turn off with what we love and talk about everyday here.”

I won’t lie….we enjoy watching CFB at home, grilling and just relaxing. Going to games became too much work.

Ha, this administration is taking us in a steep nose dive and they won’t be pulling us out. The average family is gonna struggle to feed themselves much less go to a football game.

I used to go to a lot of games but the last couple were miserable experiences. Half the day was spent in traffic or long lines, hot, and then crammed in on a bleacher between fatties for 4+ hours, half of which was spent for commercial breaks.

It’s the woke left wing BS that keeps me away. I want football not politics.

The games use to last three hours, now they last 4+. They’ve upped the price of everything and added on pricing for tailgaiting. Not to mention, closed down many lots and pushed people to the extremities of campus. It’s simply not worth it anymore.

It’s the traffic. I go and will always go, but for regular college football fans and not die hards, the thought is sitting in traffic for 2 hours to leave Tiger Stadium is a miserable experience.

With gas headed to 8-10 dollars a gallon expect those numbers to continue to nosedive.

1. Tv made the games too long. 2. Recruiting became big business that forced schools to make more money to pay for it. 3. The fans day experience was ruined by paid parking on campuses. 4. Average Fans started realizing the school didn’t care about them because of corporate sponsors. 5. Leftist wokeness and race baiting pushed Left a really sour taste. 6. Transfer portal killed any loyalty from athletes. 7. NIL Sad part is that most fans who have lost interest are probably like me. It’s not any one thing but a death by a thousand cuts.

For me personally, I don't want to deal with politics surrounding LSU anymore. I also feel like it's way too much of a hassle to go in+out with the way they've done tailgating, consistent rise in prices, parking, in/out traffic, etc. It's just not worth it anymore when you can sit at home BBQ, drink beer, and enjoy yourself. Money and politics ruined LSU's tailgate scene years ago.

Back in the day, it was a lot more convenient to attend a sporting event. Now, the lines to get to anywhere you want to go before, during, and after the game are huge problems.

This might make sense if not for the large numbers in the TV contracts.

They get you to the lights by the interstate and then leg those control the pace of the traffic. I say keep that shite moving ALL THE WAY to the interstate. Contra flow just gets you to the choke points quicker, and then traffic backs up from there. It’s stupid.

He's not wrong. I loved seeing the expansion go up, and it's an experience to see the stadium full at night. BUT. It doesn't happen often. Spending that money on renovations and just good upgrades would have been better in hindsight. Long Long time season ticket holder, but we've been to maybe 2-3 games a year the last 5 of so years.
