Cleveland Guardians Remove Giant 'Indians' Sign From Progressive Field
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports
The Cleveland Guardians began the process of removing a huge "Indians" sign from Progressive Field on Tuesday...
quote:

The giant, 80-foot aluminum logo has been at the venue since 1994 ... but as the team transitions away from its old name, crews have now begun the teardown of the script imagery.

Workers started with the top of the I, carefully removing it with the help of cranes and cables. The rest of the sign is expected to come down later this week.

The team is trying to replace it with a new "Guardians" sign for the 2022 season.

Awesome, a couple of white guys that wear dresses and don’t watch baseball will be happy for 14 seconds when they see it on Twitter

If the fans are smart they’ll let that stadium be totally empty until they change the name back.

Sadly, like we see with many sporting venues nowadays, they’ll just fill their stands with trash who’s idea of a once in a lifetime event is going to a baseball game. Then they’ll fight and we’ll watch those highlights on a future post.

At the same time, the owners probably think this gives them a great opportunity to sell new shirts and paraphernalia

"Baseball Team" would've been better than "Guardians". That sounds like a WNBA team.

They’ll sign some foreigner down the road who will end up beating his girl and the organization will find a way to compromise on it, I am sure of it.

Lifelong Indians fan. The whole damn thing is just unnecessary. Braves? Blackhawks? Those owners have guts. This a hole owner is on all fours and biting the pillow.

Freaking sell outs! When this insanity is over, and common sense reigns once again, they are going to feel very stupid.

Cleveland Cucks would look better on the merchandise.

Yep, when we forget about Indians all together and my kids ask me what they were, I’ll just shrug and say “I dunno, liberals and the women mob said we must not speaketh”

I hope in a year or so they come out with how horribly low their merchandise sales are. Fans wearing only Indians gear to games, and Indians gear side market gets created. That will be the only way to show them how stupid this was. Otherwise the fans get what they deserve in losing the history of team like the Indians. Indians aren't a team that just gain new random fans from across the country. Maybe the Major League movie gave it a bump back then, but not now. The bulk of their fan growth is generationally home grown. Max regional.
