Last week, LSU running back coach Kevin Smith extended an offer to 8th-grade phenom Rudyard "RJ" West out of West Monroe, La.

The 14-year-old track and football star will attend West Monroe High School in the fall.

During a recent track meet, RJ blew away the competition, running a 10.5 in the 100m.

I recall the same hype with a kid named Fournette when he was in the 8th grade. Didn't turn out so bad with him

Hype, yes. “Grown arse man”? Nope.

All the attention in the 8th grade, what could go wrong?

Congrats to RJ! Go win a state championship for West Monroe and then come and win a national championship at LSU!

8+4=12 and 14+4=18 so I quick math check says 8th grade

14 years old is the correct age for ninth grade. Not saying the kids not a phenom but he should be playing against ninth graders. There is a pretty big difference between eighth and ninth grade.

tonie519 stop with all the butt hurt. Apparently his family and him made the decision to move back to West Monroe because it’s whats best for him, not you.

Reggie Bush was a 8th grader with an insane highlight reel too. Hopefully his game continues to improve.

Kiffin did this before in David Sills. Kid didn't become a QB, but became a WR. In 2 years at West Virginia, he had 1870 yards and 33 TDs. He wasn't drafted, but still plays in the NFL.

That kinda speed kills. It looks unfair at this point in 8th grade football. He gets the ball and he's gone.

8th grade phenom? So a kid who hit puberty faster than most his peers. Get back to me when he’s 17.

10.5 is a 10.5

He just turned 15 last week

Clock time is absolute. He's not going to win any national track meets at 10.5 but it's still fricking fast...for an 18yo
user avatar

Stupid. Sure he’s fast but already handing out a scholarship shop for outrunning kids that 80% of the MS roster aren’t even past puberty yet?
user avatar
Popstiger2 months
Possible but he just turned 15 which is the age of most 8th grade athletes. He is not the biggest or strongest athlete at West Ridge but he is the fastest

15 is usually sophomore in HS.

We all know he isn’t going to LSU to play school
