This State Is Trying To Ban Youth Tackle Football

A new bill has been introduced in New York State that is attempting to ban tackle football for children ages 12 and under...

"While the Super Bowl is an awful lot of fun, it's not fun when you see young children run around, playing a game that they are hitting their heads, dozens to a hundred times a week – brains that are rapidly developing," Benedetto said this week. "Ninety percent of brain development happens up until the age of 12 years old, give or take a year. During this particular time, why are we putting children at risk for injury to their brains?"

"A lot of institutions that have studied this have said kids should not be playing football at a young age, so why this has taken so long I don’t know," Sepulveda told CBS 6. "I was asked to be the sponsor this year, and I was enthusiastic about it. I have an 11-year-old, and I do not want him to have any cognitive impairment due to a sport that he enjoys."

Both of my sons had to quit high school soccer because they had two concussions by their junior year. So much for non contact. Wish I would have put them in football.

Have you been around much youth football. I have. Kids that age dont hit hard enough to cause much damage and if they get taught properly the use their shoulder to tackle not their head.

We should be encouraging more kids to play tackle football at a young age instead of less. Tackle football is the ultimate team sport bc unless all 11 guys are playing together the team will not be successful. It also teaches discipline, team work, comraderie, and grit.

My son played flag and youth tackle. The kids don’t “hit” it’s just a drag the kid down kind of tackle. Flag had kids smashing every game trying to get the flag.

I don’t ever remember a teammate getting injured in peewee football. Kids are too uncoordinated to make a hit that actually can injure them. You don’t really start seeing any violent hits until high school
