Oh, how times have changed. Remember when these videos were of NFL rookies? Well, now players, like Gators defensive lineman D'Antre Robinson, are using their NIL earnings to buy houses for their mothers only a month after enrolling at Florida...

He hasn't "earned" shite, he was paid on his potential. Great gesture on buying shorty a house, hope she doesn't have to give it back in short order.

Gilbert Arenas and Kenyon Martin had an podcast discussing this exact thing. A cultural pressure black families and communities put on their kids who do come into money to first and foremost put money backwards into the family (to their parents and grandparents) instead of forward (to invest in their kids). Instead of making sure your kids and personal future is set, you buy your parents something you can't afford.

That is a great call out. I also wonder if they considered the property tax. Florida is high with no state income tax. Not to mention all of the other associated costs.

Exactly, I could never accept a house or another big purchase like this from my kids. My sole purpose is to try and make them better off than what I am and that is telling them to invest and save their money. Now if they make it to a professional league and make FU tens of millions of money then we'll talk. HAHAHA

@furious you are 100% correct. Our property taxes are ridiculous. Don’t even get me started on insurance. I understand NIL is a thing now but how the hell is this legal?

College players will want to stay in college for 5 years because they will be taking a pay cut under the NFL rookie contracts.

A hidden benefit to NIL. Before we had too many guys leaving early for a day 3 draft grade because they needed the cash.
